The rarity of Beetle Carapaces makes crafting items from materials requiring them fairly impractical. Spending an hour in an area trying to gather carapaces might yield three, if I am lucky.
Once upon a time they were called Spider Carapaces. However rather than deal with the logic of why Spider Carapaces were not found on spiders, the developers changed their name to Beetle Carapaces. A cheap dodge that does not address meeting the demand for carapaces in the game.

Personally I strongly recommend changing their name back to Spider Carapaces and make them harvestable from spiders. Except for spider silk spiders only drop near worthless junk. Putting Spider Carapaces on spiders would make hunting spiders worthwhile. You could still keep Spider Carapaces rarer than suet by make the drop rate for carapaces off spiders lower than the drop rate for suet off mammals.
