I just wanted to share that I was able to play the game in multiplayer mode without much difficulty. At times the other players (or maybe me) seemed to jump ahead or freeze in place. But the majority of my experience was fine.

good for you... ^_^ with my distance from the server... playing in multiplayer mode is not an option because it's laggy as hell... I can play in Single Player Online mode though...

Well I am a really long way from the server (maybe 12000 miles), ping time 245 ms average, but my experience has been very good. Mostly OK in R1-R5, playing on a laptop, turning video settings down to minimum, frame rate and general smoothness was tolerable. Internet (broadband) runs at 2.5 - 3.5 Mbits/sec on a good day.
Don't know if it's the polish in R6, or the new computer I bought (i7@ 3.9 Gh, 16 G RAM, NVidia GTX760 4 GB video card, 1920 x 1080 monitor) but the experience is now awesome. The internet is no different, but the game is amazingly fluid, scenery is sharp and crisp, and that's with every video setting cranked up to the maximum.
I think your own personal hardware is more important than the connection.
Biggest problem is wiping drool off the keyboard:D:rolleyes:

Although I very much approve of the improvements graphically I can see from where we were in R5,

There are serious problems on OS X from the launcher not launching the game to not being able to leave Owl's head via path or moon gate (crash) to the character window crashing the game, to full screen mode resulting in random crashes every so often.

In that respect it's taken a serious step back from R5 in terms of playability.

I've also gotten kicked off MPO a lot.

PM me if you want crash logs, I've got em. I've got a lot of em.

I can't play the game period. Guess my internet is no good. Im always told in other online games how laggy I am, a lot of people try to accuse me of downloading porn while playing!(mainly in games like starcraft 2). I try to say I don't notice any lag, but they tell me that I must be used to it so I dont notice it.
I wonder how they can tell that its ME that causes lag, like what feature on a computer pinpoints the player in game that lags?

Anyway... those games I can at least play online, just have to be ok with the lag. But this game doesn't work at all. Its been getting work since around the 4th release for me. Release one worked great. And I don't know why I can't get the same results by switching to SPO.

I like a slow paced game anyway, so hopefully I can get this game to work with my crummy connection to the internet.

I was doing fine until last release, then my cheap lap top just couldn't handle it... but I think my wireless connection was never a problem, but I could be wrong... o_O
I know it's new computer time for me ;)

Im almost 100% positive that my computer can handle all the graphics of this game perfectly. My computer was built by my dad's buddy, and he told me that it was a gaming rig when I bought it from him. It pretty much installs all the latest games like diablo 3 and starcraft 2 which are pretty high in graphic quality and it runs them well. Though, the only way I can play a smooth lag free game on starcraft 2 is if I am only playing single player or just playing with ONE other player. Diablo 3 only has like 4 players per game, it ran fine for me, but I lost interest in that game fast. Not that it was bad.. I havent even played all the way thru it yet. I will someday though.

I wonder if ill be able to at least play this game SPO someday...

    It's your new rig. 4GB of GDDR5 ? Yeah.

While Shroud now is in the realm of decent graphics, except for character models, I would like to say that a rig like that is capable of some really amazing graphics, way beyond anything we're likely to see here. Graphics aren't everything of course. :)

What is your internet provider? Have you ever rated it at http://www.speedtest.net/? You can even select a location in Texas and see what your relative speed is to Portalarium.

I am curious what your speed is if you are having these types of problems. Or whether it is related to just high latency.

My ISP is viaero wireless. I got a 4g unlimited data wireless router and I get internet service from them for about 50 bucks a month. I had another ISP check the basement apartment I rent for signal and they told me they couldn't get signal here. So they basically just told me no deal sorry.
So I figured I would try a wireless router deal. It worked! It runs UO just fine. Browsing is pretty slow sometimes, and the more modern games are pretty slow.
I tried the speed test, selected Austin Texas, and it showed these results: PING-155 ms, Download Speed-0.23 Mbps, Upload Speed- 0.06 Mbps
If thats way way to slow to even play a laggy game of SotA on single player then I dunno what to do im a poor feller who just lost 2 jobs so far this year, and can't go back to do the job that I went to college for(because 1: I hate it, it was interesting studying it in school though... 2: Im incompetent in this field) But anyways ill try not to go too deep into my personal life.. I just don't know if ill ever have the means to get a super high speed connection that will let me play this game at the max. But if I could find some way to get on a connection that wouldn't cost anymore, but at least let me log into a laggy single player game and plop down my home that I got for backing the game that will be nice. I can be fine with that while I wait for technology to improve to the point where it don't cost a gob to get a computer and internet connection that can play the online games that will be released in 2014-2016 era.

your ping times are acceptable(not great), your bandwidth isn't going to work for much. For reference, Netflix requires 4Mbps to steam HD video, I stream HD video and game without any issues.

Geez I feel for you mate. As Mishri said your bandwidth sucks. That's barely adsl standard. No wonder browsing is slow, and SotA will certainly suffer. Given your circumstances, not sure what to suggest - but sounds like you have a wireless setup. Question - do you have a fixed phone line? Is there an option to get a wired connection - wired is often way better than wireless. I have a adsl2 modem on my phone line, gets fair speeds as above. (It's all about distance from the nearest telephone exchange) Still waiting for fibre connection (and will be for many years I think:p). My connection (with bags of d/l allowance) costs me AU$79 a month, and there are many cheaper plans. So if that's possible for you might be worth looking into. Good luck!

I dont have a phone line period other than my girlfriend's cell. I dont carry a cell like most people, im behind the times. Mainly because I like being able to disappear from everyone at my convinience and being able to say that I dont have a cell so you couldn't contact me.
Im really not into keeping up with the jones's at all, im a very minimalist kind of person... I don't keep up with all the latest gadgets and all, im not looking to own the best stuff.... So even though im a poor fellow, I sometimes have some money saved up to do something with. So I backed this game! =P And I backed it real good. I really don't play any new games right now, I mostly play the old ones that are cheap and quick to download. I don't own a console, just got this desktop.

Yeah, wireless has a lot of latency which is very noticeable in games. Streaming movies will be fine as there is buffering of which you can only have so much of when it comes to player positions and what not. Reason other people notice it more is because uploading on cellular wireless has less priority than downloading.

I'd have to move with those specs. :)

I have 53 ping 14.82 Mbps down and 3.52 Mbps up which is still ridiculously slow for the price I pay. I get 20 both ways inside Comcasts network, and now incredible specs to Netflix which paid for peering.

Way to go FCC. Total chaos. :(

@ Robby. If you live in apartments or within range of someone who has an awesome connection, have you considered asking them if you can help them pay for their internet and share it somehow? I know my house is in the boondocks but I have other houses within range and can sometimes see their routers when my wifi is seeking a connection. I know how it is frustrating to have less than adsl bandwidth and had to wait two years before a high bandwidth cable company moved into my small town. For some unknown reason, my local internet company decided to double all of their customer's bandwidth without charging extra! I do not know much about smart phones that act as routers, but maybe that is another way to get better internet too. If someone has a phone that acts like a router maybe you can invite them over more often? LOL. There is also satellite internet but I'm sure that is not cheap.

I'm pinging Austin at 197ms Download 23.89 Mbps, Upload 2.94 Mbps.

To be honest the ping is a huge concern to me, certainly on UO I would never even consider playing a server with that kind of ping.

I know that I am not the only person with issue, and I also know if the game is to be successful it is an issue that must be resolved.

I have 65ms 33.5Mb down, 7.47Mbps Up... to that speed test server.

Keep in mind, that speed test server could be on an entirely different network from the game servers, using different routes. you'd have to do a tracert to see.
