I have dsl and I have 53ms 5.76Mb down and 0.34Mb up to Austin. Last two releases game ran pretty smooth. I just don't know about that up speed, how important it is.

btw.. Dark Fiber means unused (no light) fiber. (or it can mean an unused cwdm/dwdm wavelength). If you are using it, it's lit fiber :) It was probably sold as dark fiber, meaning you light it up with your equipment. There can be a lot of ways to deliver the service, just depends on who provides it for how that works.

If I wanted to I could find the limits of that server's bandwidth... :D

(You may have already struck that, many speedtest servers I found wont work for 200Mbps+ some wont even do 100Mbps).. I could technically do 10Gbps.. but the most I've done is 1Gbps.

So it looks like my problem is my download speed of 0.23 Mbps. Everyone else here is reporting about ten to 100x more download speed than me.

Are you in UK?, My broadband is a bit lousy, I get 7mb down and .500 up but my ping is normally good @ 90, Hopefully I will get Fibre soon when I swap it out for lousy tv deal and then I should get 38mb. Not sure what the ping is on Sota though as we have 7000 miles in between us?

This is from Europe, Belgium, near Antwerp to Austin, TX.
I'm concerned about the ping. No idea how they are going to pull off decent connections outside of the US since there's only 1 server...

Is there only one sever? That seems silly, considering EVERYTHING has more than one server these days. Robby, you should call your ISP and have them do a ping test on your box. Your connection speed is well below average, and if you are paying for more bandwidth than that, hopefully they will come out and fix it for you, once they ping your connection and find out if it meets up to what you are paying for.

That's one of the reasons behind the hex design of the game: If there's too many people in one hex -I think the current number is 60ish- they can simply duplicate the hex. No need for separate servers to accommodate lots of players. Cheaper to run.

When playing UO I ping to Europa about 14ms, the only reason I don't move to Atlantic is be ahes my ping there is about 130ms....I need a good ping for PvP.

I can already tell from SotA that PvP won't be as fast as UO......even so when I'm pinging 200ms it is something that is very concerning.
