Captcha for Posting

    Greetings Avatars,

    As some of you noticed our forums have been repeatedly attacked by a series of spam bot attacks. To combat this (and other behavior issues) we are adding captcha to forum posting for some community members. Starting hopefully later this week anyone who does not have a paid account must answer a captcha before making any posts.

    For now it only applies to thread creation and for users that meet any of the following criteria:
    1. Less than 50 likes or 50 posts
    2. Signed up less than a month ago
    We considered a more draconian policy of not allowing unpaid members to post at all but we felt that would be too restrictive. We hope to maintain the ability for non-paid members to contribute but we reserve the right to rescind this privilege if the attacks do not abate.

    I'd remove that. Likes on this forum should never be a qualifier for anything... just my opinion. I'm really happy to see you guys are still willing to let non-paid accounts on the forums. I think there is a large group out there that is on the fence about SotA and we could use as many of them in here for those of us that want the social gaming experience :D

    Maybe I misunderstood the criteria logic, but it seems to me that they won't get the captcha if they create 50 posts OR they have 50 likes. but not both. SO you could do 1 post, have 50 likes on that post and not get a captcha for your next post.

    They should have to be here for 1 month And have 50+ posts (and still not be banned) to escape captcha, or they just make a pile of accounts & wait 30 days & bamm.

    It is not special treatment. It is keeping the forums free from spam (and unaccountable trolls) which for the most part do not ever come from paid accounts. Therefore there is no need to force paid members to enter captcha.

    Taking a byte of out spammers is a good thing.

    One comment though, when I posted something yesterday, it kept showing me instructions to enter the two words (or was that numbers). I could only see one number of four digits. I refreshed the captcha several times, I turned on the audio, it still said to enter two, but only showed one. I entered the one from the audio and it worked, still, it was confusing.

    omg if a person has a report for spam it flags them as a spammer... after a couple reports a system message is sent to everyone in the zone... if no one says "they're not a spammer" after 30 seconds they automatically get flagged open pvp until a dev can sort it out... love it. This needs to make episode 1.
