card system: who likes it?

    Good post.

    I know in melee there are a few options to partially block as you suggested. Magic does not have anything but damage. There are no shield spells either. There are a few CC spells with stun.

    Now are you thinking a combat system like Darkfall where you have to aim to hit?

    Or something along the lines of adding a shield up block next attack move and or a counter attack move? For mages something like a reflect spell. That sounds like it could make matches way more interesting now that I think about it....

    Probably to penalize you for being fairly well armored against attacks. Hence, you should be able to withstand a few more hits than the light armored idiot (points to self in beginner's wear) who won't get as much slugs but can't really take that many hits.

    i really do enjoy the slugs. keeps you interested during combat.. albeit mad as hell, but still interested. also engages you in ways focused on less during most video games, setting up wardrobes for different play styles and weapon uses.

    I've been playing around with combining armor types, got some plate, chain, and cloth armors going, going with both damage absorption and damage avoidance together, and lowering my slugs drastically in the process. works very well.

    noticed a huge reduction in slugs when i went from iron plate to copper chain, keeping basically the same damage absorption too.

    i think of it along the lines of playing a deck of magic the gathering. if you've ever played that, you can draw from the similarities and start to grok it from there fairly easily. at least i did.

    The skeletons and spiders at the Tower of the Shuttered Eye are fun to play with :D

    lol Sebastion well get busy. Jump right in the waters fine.;) Oh and to say my vote which is....... ta-da............ I like it. :)
    I Can't wait to see what's next for it. When the sounds are in, the effects are behaving the way they should,
    and probably some changes to look and feel, then it will be a fabulous system. So keep the great ideas coming which helps so much.

    I like it.
    What I would like to be changed is the level system to a skill based system. So keep and improve the current combat system, but change how we get those skills.

    I like the concept but wish I could have things both ways. I understand for advanced attacks and combos having the card system but not having the ability to time my basic attacks seems ridiculous to me. It is pre-alpha and things will change, I am well aware of that. But at the same time I despise the combat system and it is so far detached from anything I consider fun. It is fighting in auto mode with focus being driven all over the screen with clumsy controls.

    I hope and pray that in the future there will be some kind of control mapping option including an option to map basic attacks to the mouse and or a key.

    To be quite honest if I knew that combat was going to be as it is now when they first started out I would not have invested such a significant amount of cash into it.

    I still have hope for the future, but I really really really hope both play styles become optional.

    I really like it!

    The slugs are to balance the inactive skills and I like that concept to (the more you train on inactive skills the less active you will be in combat) but I think it needs some tweaking and since it's pre-alpha i'm not worried about that.

    The cardsystem is a nice idea.
    It adds something most people forgett it exists if it is about combat: luck.

    I like it and it also reminds me of Magic the Gathering. There are many things I do not like about combat system, but I like that it is card based.

    i'm honestly surprised its gotten this much of a positive reaction. the people who dislike it are screaming it from every rooftop, but not many people are defending it. like i've always said, if the devs are doing something right from your perspective, let 'em know. :)

    i like cheese too. i'm a vrry cheezy person.

    I am using a Static bar, so the deck system does not effect me. I have tried the random deck system and could not see any advantage to it.

    People tend to really only comment on something when they don't like it....not a huge deal...:p
