Casting without reagents?

    Am I suppose to be able to cast spells without reagents? I've been doing it all day... Fireball, Ring of Fire, etc.

    Yes, but at much reduced effectiveness (less damage inflicted) and increased focus cost ;)

    I hope this feature doesn't find its way into the final game. Casting spells without reagents is like playing an air guitar -- it's just silly and doesn't make a lot of sense. Logically, this feature makes me think those with blade, or ranged combat skills should be capable of using ghost swords, and ghost arrows when they leave their gear at home, which is just wrong...

    Don't bring an air guitar to a fantasy fight.

    On second thought, I'd like to request a feature. Such a silly ability/feature deserves an equally silly animation. I propose an air guitar animation, for those times in which I leave home unprepared, without reagents. Inspiration for the devs:

    What's unproductive of a thread that raises a point that most ex Ultima UO backers expected to be in the game, if you want to cast you need reagents not Wands.
    It's been introduced to satisfy those that like everything easy, just like any other MMO you can play.

    Thomas in owl's head has the reagents. Hopefully, he have what you need. If not, drop to single player and buy what you need. But big lots of cash, they cost 10g each.

    If reagents are to be implemented then they should be required not simply an optional but suggested way of casting. Much like the deck system itself it adds another unnecessary layerto the game in attempt to please everyone, which we all know isn't a realistic goal. Either you need reagents or you dont. Dont use them as another nostalgia device for appeasement.

    I think you should have to repair your sword after every fight as well, to be more realistic.

    This is a game that is suppose to be fun, not a mass regent inventory system.

    Stop hating on mages.

    Not "hating on" mages as i'm playing one. To me making sure you have the reagents you need is more strategic then playing whack a mole with the card deck and actually your weapons will need to be repaired in time as you use them.

    like I said many times in other threads on this same subject.
    The cost of a mages regents should be the same as it costs a fighter to maintain his weapon. It's that simple.

    As an axe user I can craft and enhance my own axe. That's all I need, skill points give me better skills but to use those skills I require no reusable regents, just periodic maintenance on my axe. So a warriors skills increase and it costs him nothing but maintaining his axe and skill points.

    Mages don't get any affinties to their weapons like melee users do. Magic is thier weapon, a physical weapon is a crutch.

    Also, so far mages have no auto-attack where melee does.

    So mages already have disadvantages

    Not absolutely requiring reagents for every spell is one of the best decisions the team has ever made. Bravo!
