I'm not sure how the game engine works, how much of the scene needs to be loaded before anything can be shown... But if a graphic and some text can be shown, why can't the text of the chat area be shown?

    Just a thought.

we used to not even have music on load screens. there are plans to (someday) make the chat window separable from the main game window. that sugests it would be useable while loading.

...but also, hopefully loads are fast enough some day that if chat is not available it's not a big loss.

If only programming was as easy as Photoshop, just wait for load times to improve sufficiently that you won't care.

How much does an SSD help with this? I'm thinking the game would need to be on the SSD? If it's a good improvement I'll need to install a spare one just for this game.

Once you go to an SSD for gaming, you'll never want to go back. Even better are the NVME SSD (M.2 socket) My NVME SSD can xfer 3.5Gb per second.

There's no bottleneck in data transfer on my machine ... :D
