Imagine being able to take a boat (possibly crafted by a player), and setting off to see what lands are over the horizon.

You'd load up with provisions and colonists, guards, merchants etc and have the potential to set up a foothold in a faraway land.

The foothold would only be rudimentary. You would have to build tents/huts and then try and get enough people and resources to grow and prosper. All the while fighting off monsters and trying to forage for food and water. Survival itself would be the adventure in the beginning.

And, in time, you might grow your foothold into a Village, and then a Town, then a City. Something for others to visit and/or trade with.

I find the whole concept of living on the frontier, with a very real chance of failing and perishing very exciting. Imagine the pride you'd feel if you were the Founder of a burgeoning town on the frontier that started as three tents?

Because of the remoteness and lack of "civilised" facilities, you could find/craft items that showed that they came from the wilderness. Imagine getting a ship back to Civilisation in your furs and rusty chainmail, notched blade on your back, brushing shoulders with silver plated knights? Imagine the roleplaying opportunities :)

It might be an opportunity to forge a new life for yourself, if you find you've too many crimes. On the frontier, your past is forgotten and you can be a new person. The Virtues could certainly be explored.....Sacrifice, Valour. Compassion to your fellow colonists, or even the NPC peoples that already live there.

Do you choose to conquer them, or become their friends and allies? Maybe against a foe that could threaten everyone.

That would be my wish :)
