Combat pets?

Feel free to add any comments or suggestions here - just trying to consolidate a lot of the threads involving pets and such

Pets, Taming and Ranching

 

I just want a large lizard, or giant rat to fight with.

 

wel considering that as a royal artisan founder you get a :
creature taming call
Unique ability to tame an elusive monster that an ordinary player could never tame!

so yes combat pets shoud be in the game

 

Hopefully they will have rideable combat pets

 

I would feel more comfortable having combat pets run by a Magic and summoning system... But since I know there are RPers out there who will refuse to use Magic and may not wish to rely on Scrolls, that wouldn't work out so well.

My suggestion for combat pets; limit them to attacking only other combat pets. Prevent combat pets from directly having an outcome on other Player Characters.

My question on combat pets; Will combat pets heal, will they be split into categories such as offensive and defensive combat pets? Or do non-combat pets serve that defensive role inside and/or outside of combat?

 

If I spend my skill points in taming and get a combat pet as opposed to other areas where the skill points can provide my character an advantage, I think that is fair game. I think perhaps I should be limited to one combat pet out and in use at any given time, but I don't see why I shouldn't be able to use my combat pet in PvP against another player.

That being said, I think it would encourage most PvP players to focus on taming, perhaps at the expense of crafting and then in turn be more dependent on other players for crafting. I'm fine with that.

 

I like taming and expect to see a robust system in SOTA...but I'd also like to be able to create magical pets like a Homunculus or a Golem.

I'd also like the ability to summon pets like Demons and Imps.

I'm not however a fan of typical MMO pets that stay in your backpack until you use them, or the teleport in via a spell. I'd much rather see persistence so you could "create" them and put them to good use as servants or guards. I like the idea of having a "combat" pet until it's killed or you send it away.

 

I agree.

The magic design as outlined does list a spell for summoning a demon.

wel from wat i can gather and hope ( no confermation on these just hopefull thinking ).
we will have 2 sorts of pets.

summond pets ( true magic like the fiere elemental and demon and that new ice elemental we will see in release 9).
which will work like the pokemon ( summon and the pet pops in existance next to you ).

but i am hoping we will have to go out and try to "friend" a criter we meat in the wild posseblie lure him in whith reagents ( meat or birdseed or sallade).
coud olso be a reason to go to pvp zones if we really want those rare criters.
The rarest resources and rarest creatures will be more abundant in PVP Zones.

And also the way they are balanced. Will it cost substantial skill points to be able to tame and what magic tree will that be in, etc.

 

We have already have combat pets! They named them elementals

 

I would love a combat Rabbit! That would be a fun one.

 

If requests are being listed. There's one I really want. Not a copy paste of some other animal either.
