Below is a portion of some design concepts I put together a long time ago for expanding the gathering and refining using mining and smelting as examples that I figured I'd share:

I love the concepts. Having those tiers will make, and different size and quality of nodes would make it more interesting to go gathering. Perhaps other things can be a factor too; an "obsidian" node might produce better yields of rare materials/higher xp, but take longer, for example.

    Great ideas!

Great work! It's a gorgeous presentation.

But... we can remove gathering from the game entirely, so people can just focus on playing the game. Buy the ore from NPCs, get ingots from scrapped spoils of war, or drops from enemies.

I think gathering is one of the most played out mechanics in gaming and a complete waste of time.

If we HAVE to have harvesting, keep it simple and have output based on mini-games per ore node, so output is actually based on some in-game skill rather than racking mounds of xp. There's zero human skill in the current system, which there would be if we gained items during fights that we could re-use or had to play a game to increase our chance of gaining critical drops.

Looks sexy, thanks for your effort.

+After reading all of this and @Titania Xylia post, it would be nice to have a chance to spawn ore elementals from nodes.

However that might be, from artifact pickaxes, to a beautiful and in depth skill tree as you’ve done.

Very good job ... perhaps you can do some skill trees for masterworks /enchant trees ...something that can include specialisation and what that might boost ....

If we remove gathering how do people get free crafting XP ? Especially new players ?

I too would love to have ore elementals spawn and be able to harvest materials from the corpses of certain elementals (e.g. earth) .

Maybe have some ores act like mimics, but as elementals! When you start mining the ore moves and forms into an elemental, and killing it gives you ore and a rarer resource!

I totally forgot about them until you mentioned it. There is something like that in the mine in one of the starting Outskirts maps. It looks like a crystal node, but when you go to mine it, it becomes an elemental you have to kill. When you do, it has sapphire crystals as loot. We need more of those and of all different types. Ore mimics too!
