I forgot what the other game was I was playing... but in addition to all the slots for armor and what not... they had a costume slot. So if I ran around with leather armor, you would see that. But if I bought a costume and equipped it, the costume would show on the character but the armor was still there.

Costumes! I can run around in a bikini out fit. I can run around in full pretty dress or a tuxedo. All with not having to mess with patterns and what not.

Imagine if GM tailors could discover ways to make different costumes and put together different styles... not just the canned stuff. Imagine if GM weavers could create exotic fabrics need for these costumes. Or if smelters and smithies could do it for metallic/armored type costumes...

Patterns were a great band-aid but they are running their course. You can't say it "breaks immersion", me running around in white high-heels and a skirt already does that.

    What do you think community?

I personally need about 5 costume slots. Viola probably needs ten or so.

Patterns are still in their infancy, and they provide the bulk of what you're referring to.
I think they're on the right track with what they've given us so far in the way of patterns.
Personally, I'd want them to spend time on issues other than a new "costume" ability.
    Sorry......

Age of Conan unchained did that.

It was a cosmetic tab. You could wear armor but apply the cosmetic side and be in your birthday suit

Don't you all just use the combat decks? This does however require you to carry your party duds around with you. I stick them in a bag, but they do spill out into your inventory once you wear them and take them off again to don your combat stuff.

@Steevodeevo - I use combat decks but to be honest, you are just hacking around to get this feature. The fact that people are using combat decks is in itself a bit of proof of the value of this.

@FrostII - I read through a lot of these threads and someone always brings up "priority". We should absolutely stop talking about priority and just start building a list of good ideas. Then Port or whomever can take that list as input and sort it however they see fit based on need, resource availability or whatever magic formula they have. Patterns don't provide the bulk of what I'm saying. The ability to enhance the crafting system so that there is more for the crafter/refiners to do is part of this. Patterns don't do this at all.

@Proteus - I'm sure it does but the game I was thinking about is ArchAge. But the fact that this is in multiple games is a great data point too.

    @Vladamir Begemot - AMEN!

Thanks for the input, I like the discussion!

    Point.

Maybe we could use some clothing bags to help keep inventories straight.

Put the close in a bag, lock the items to the bag so they go back to the same bag when we change clothes

If they introduced a costume slot, then they would be able to hide the fact that they are wearing armor.. which I believe the devs have stated is something they want to avoid. With the use of patterns now, people can at least identify that the person is using light/med/heavy armor...

Personally - I think it's unnecessary since nothing prevents people from wearing the costume they want now. Maybe once everything else is in/fixed/running well something like this could be re-visited.

Yeah but that "want" is total BS. The fact that I can pattern my entire outfit in a skirt, heals, shirt and hat defeats that "want". I know what they want, but what they want is already dead/moot. Plus you have the ability to look at the Character sheet to see what the base items are, that doesn't change.

Thanks for adding to the discussion @idaniod , this is good to do!

I just prefer that we have more pattern options that work with existing armor.

I know that Chain isn't the most popular armor type, but... I'd like to see more Chain armor patterns. We have a pretty solid amount for Plate, a solid amount for leather, but it seems that both cloth and chain armors are a bit ignored.

Seeing options for both of those would be really nifty, but the patterns/costume HAVE to indicate the kind of armor that a character is wearing. It's thematically breaking the game to see a tank rolling up in a tutu or party dress, to do battle with the dragon, at least the way the game is themed currently.

But then when you unnequip it, it needs to go back into that same bag, otherwise Im back at step 1 after a single Euip-unequip cycle!

As for my opinion on this, I remember having this feature in Black Desert Online, and it was great, but my costumes were for a specific character, which meant for a specific armor type. I agree with an above poster where I would prefer seeing more, and I mean WAY MORE patterns for each gear type, but keep it limited to class. I dont want to see someone in a wedding dress bodyslam something, it just isn't right. If you wanna socialise with that wedding dress, have it equiped in another deck and quickswap it when you are ready for it!

For UO, UO Assist was da bomb! It allowed you to set bags for this reason. Even a pouch you designated as salvage items.

My characters armor is so damn ugly it would be nice if it was like UO, just drag clothing/tabards onto the paper doll and have it displayed over the armor.

Agreed. I just crafted a new necro set of augmented leather. I had a full pattern set ragged leather so I applied that with a worn cloak. So now it looks super ugly but in a I meant it kind of way so it’s cool.

The issue with this is PVP side of things, using costumes covers what people are equipped with. That said we have deck slots which we can use for costume now. i have many just for that. I swap as I need when out of combat to what I want to wear.

Yeah, @idaniod said that up a couple of posts. As I said, I call BS on that. I can pattern out my entire armor set to a skirt and high heels. Visually in PvP you have no idea what I’m wearing unless you look at Paperdoll. And BTW, that would still be the case here.
