    My specs:

    i5 3570k @ 4.2
    16GB RAM
    GTX 1070ti

Currently getting 20fps around town 30-45 in the wild

Which would give the biggest increase in fps first?

    8700k@5gh or the latest GPU

    Thanks

    CPU is my best guess.

I have a gtx1070 and can play with 3 clients

    1 @ 3/4 4K
    2 @ 3/4 1080p
    OBS streaming

    Still get 40+ FPS.

I'd just like my Win10 PC to just not sound like a helo taking off every time i Load SOTA. Fans go berserk, like for nothing else.

I play with i7 7700k and with GTX 970. So maybe its the cpu then. New i7 8 series is awesome. Your GPU is nice and if you upgrade it, wait for the new RTX 2070 or any of that new generation.

My pc runs VR ok, but Sota.. is demanding for reasons..

Yea thinking of getting the RTX2080ti maybe next year. Yes, mmos seem to require good cpu, i guess this game is no different.

    Thanks

    First upgrade the CPU.

Then you can buy the RTX2080ti, otherwise your old CPU would just bottleneck it.

Use your task manager to see the load
    My CPU is ~ 30% and GPU at ~ 80%(i7 6700k, GTX 1070)
Should depend on screen resolution + graphics details, so also depends on your settings

+1 for CPU - i went from 3570k to 7700k last year and was surprised how much of a diff it made.

You have to also change motherboard and get some sweet ddr4's.

Edit: Because your current systen is not compatible with the CPU nor the ddr4

with the spec you posted @Penguin84 I would strongly say CPU, I have a threadripper 16 core each running at 4ghz and if i crank it up a bit more i get way more fps ..

I was taking a break from SOTA at the time so can't say for sure on this game (and the client has had a number of performance passes in the year I was out) - but in general, a very noticeable increase in 'smoothness' in many games, even those where the i5 wasn't maxing out.

I also run a 1070 and generally sit at 50% ish on both CPU and GPU and am happy with SOTA's performance on 'best'

BTW when you get a new Mobo - make sure its got M2 slots and get one of the latest gen NVMe SSDs with 3,000+ Mb/s rates (Samsung 970 is good) - the jump from SATA SSDs is phenomenal too...

I have a 7th Gen i5-7300HQ @ 2.5 (true quad core), 16GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 1050ti and am pulling 36-47 fps easy on the best setting in the wild while fighting multiple mobs.

I set mine to high also, but it totally depend on your fans + how dusty they are. I once cleaned the dust out my Mom's jet engine sounding computer, and then the fans were able to operate at a normal speed and peace was restored to the house.

I used to have a i5 3550 and about 4 months ago or so i upgraded to the 8th gen i5's. Especially in towns it's like night and day. I still have a geforce 960, but i'm running close to my fps cap while running Eve Online on a 2nd monitor :)
