Chris just announced in his stream Crafting Specialisation wont be restricted to 1 tree per character ..instead we will be able to specialise in all trees if we choose to.

Uh.... what? Shouldn't it be renamed "Crafting Generalization" then?

The reason for this was to avoid alt switching, which everyone was going to do anyways. Now one character can do them as many as you want.

I still have some characters that I just specifically want to do certain crafting though.

Then what's the point of specialization in the first place? It's supposed to be a tradeoff between being really good at something specific and being unique, and being able to do other things.

Yes, but I think the main thing to ask here is, what was the reason for crafting spec in the first place? I thought it was so people had to rely on others, at least, thats what the people who wanted it argued for it for.

The only time that is possible in any MMO is when players are too green to do it themselves.

Everyone was just making alts anyway. Though it's really just a huge crafting buff rather than specialization. Should still be fun!

Also if I was hearing correctly, the cost for leveling the specialization was also going to be expensive. I believe xp wise?

Yeah, I mean, I don't hate it, but it's not really specialization any more. It's just a "crafting pass" then. I really wasn't looking forward to leveling up a bunch of alts, so this isn't bad, but I also don't feel it really "fixes" crafting.

@oplek, thank you for that meme! *Headdesk* was my immediate reaction to the original post!

I'll go back and watch the stream tonight, and I'm really hoping (but not really expecting) that Elrond misunderstood what he was saying. Because otherwise, my editor's heart will just cry at the massacre of the English language. Maybe someone should gift Portalarium a dictionary?

He did say 20x skill 24 million producer xp per tree is still limiting. Well for me it is anyways!!

For the people who run scripts to make potions all day not so much.

Even though I have already made the alts for all the non gathering skills, I still like that person does not have to build alts to do that now. I just wish adventure skills never got specs or made it so you could level them all so I didnt have to respec my spec all the time or make alts for that. I wish this game had stayed pure classless.

Might be something Chris will get back to and allow us at this point, I think like he feels like Adventurer Spec did exactly what he didn't want to have in the game, so he might revert that *Fingers Crossed*, Who knows?

Okay, listened now. While I disagree with his reasoning (I have no interest in being competitive with other players), I'm happy with what he described. Personally, I'm going to have a stable of alts anyway, because playing a god would be boring for me and I have no interest in playing a character without limitations or personality-based abilities and interests. But if someone else wants to do just that and has played enough to be able to invest in the skills, yay for them. Go for it. We all know immortals can be amazing at lots of things just because they've lived long enough to learn that much.

Just -- don't call it specialization. It's not. It's the opposite of specialization. Being a polymath and being a specialist are mutually exclusive, BY DEFINITION.
