“Remembers the saying” “When in a **** storm pitch a tent”.

I think I see a mob with pitchforks and torches looking for @Chris , I am not a crafter as I gave up on it back when things blew up on the first MW or Enchant at 94% expected success rate.

So why not push for some tweaks to two things.

To whomever suggested Blacksmith NPC purchase useless junk (estimated 2 billion), great idea. Maybe 70% of item value gets that crap off the vendor/shelf.

In addition to the buyback proposal, @Elrond suggested in the Wishlist forum that items of the same type should be able to be converted to the next higher denomination. Example: (4 bronze swords of garbage stats become one bronze uncommon sword with higher durability. Add the re-roll option as well.

Someone with influence please bring this up to @Chris in order to have the **** storm cease and the pitchforks and torches put away. Let’s give the crafters a bone instead of the shaft.

I'm not sure we can really blame Chris. Every time I've heard it come up on the stream, he's tried to tell people that he's not deeply involved in the crafting work, that it's other people handling that. Of course, that makes it hard to tell where the problem lies -- whether with Bzus or with other people who are overriding Bzus. Or more likely, not with any one person but with a ecosystem that makes it possible for people implementing things and people making decisions to be deeply out of touch with the needs of the player base -- or for the Technical Director (I think that's his title?) to be deeply out of touch with the problems in a major part of the game.

What about that: instead of the rerolls we get to choose one guaranteed trait. Or two *shrugs*
Pretty sure it's too late for that but I am going to leave it here non the less.

Don't forget that this is supposed to be a first pass at the system to at least get something out there, the possibilities are still out there for advanced systems, they must just be longer to implement than expected, thus they are giving us SOMETHING while we wait.

Maybe. But that's saying I should "just be happy" they're putting some less smelly poo on top of the stinky poo. It doesn't inspire confidence in the eventual fixes if the hastily applied band-aids don't do anything.

Ohh that's not at all what I'm saying, I'm just saying we should not act like this was the last piece of the puzzle!

It's abundantly clear that they do not use the crafting system or have any idea how crafting actually works in the game, across all levels of crafting (not just the MW bits most people focus on). See the link in my sig to the bit about crafting in SOTA being fundamentally broken.

I would not call this specialisation.

One more alternative suggestion for specialisation.
Simply count how many times you successful use a recipe and use that number to give a bonus.

If we have a crafter that only make wooden buckets the this number can be used to give some bonus when crafting wooden buckets
(I would give that crafter a speed boost when crafting them)

Someone that only enchants 1 handed swords ...

First, this is a thread about what Chris said about specializations.

No this is pretty trivial. you're just refactoring code that already exists and adding a button. Maybe an hour is hyperbole, but my main point still stands. They've been promising crafting specializations for over a year and this is the best they've got? It's insultingly lazy.

They've had a first pass and had a couple years to fix it. I don't give them as much credit as you do. I'd like to see the devs create a crafter from the beginning and play one a couple hours a day. The way the game has progressed is that a few with access to exploits (I'll use the word) that grant access to huge amounts of XP enjoy the good times, but by the time others learn of it or are able to exploit the XP gains themselves - it's fixed. This leaves a small group of "elite" players that are going to over-balance the game and bar entry to new players. Who wants a +3 str ring from a new crafter when you can get a +12 somewhere else? The difference is that the new player is going to take even more years to get to the same place. I'm not as forgiving. The devs are dreadfully short of staff and need to bring people on to move the game forward.

So I see no one commenting about what they said yesterday which to me is completely backwards and further nerfing crafting.

Instead of the pick your enchantment, they are going to WEIGHT the types of enchantments and masterworks creating and even bigger need for reroll (which they want to charge you money for on top of millions of xp).

You had even odds to get that +6 STR (plus the extra .1's for those that dumped millions into it) or get any other nonsense thing like +3Str. With a weighted system, you can bet your arse they will make the things we want less likely rather than more likely to occur cause you know we need more sota math.

The early release notes did not include the reroll button. The Friday stream did not mention it (unless I missed it). They mentioned the weighting and the display of pluses but they did not say reroll was in there. They said we have put in the groundwork.

    Did reroll get delayed?

Maybe I'm missing the joke, but it's literally in the R68 instructions.

My understanding is that spec is currently planned for R69. R68 just has the infuriating "rarity" change to enchanting/MW that will finally kill gear crafting for good.

I've been saving up crafting XP for many months waiting for Specialization to hit. I've been hoarding Silver like it's going out of style. And every announcement they make just makes me want to pour that XP into something else, makes me just want to sell the silver ingots off.

"Hey guys! I have an idea. Let's take a frustrating part of the game and make it even more frustrating!"

"Oh!!!! Good idea! But I have a better idea! Let's do what you just said, but first we'll promise them the complete opposite for like a year before roll out!"

    "We're on it!"

Someone is really working on anti-virtue points.
