This is a two part suggestion:

We got spoiled when the Early Access stamp was at the top of the screen. This allowed us to know at a glance what version the client was running; so when we couldn't see each other or had grouping issues, the first thing we would do is compare client versions. Now; without the stamp on the screen, it isn't so obvious what is happening (newer players won't know), or where to get the info.

    1. Please consider adding a / command "/version" that displays the client's current build.

In addition, this command *could* check the server for the current client build number to determine if there is a patch that needs to be installed.

This would be a quick and easy way for the player to determine if they need to restart the client to patch.

    2. Please consider adding an OSD (On Screen Display) system announcement advising when a new patch is available. If these messages are being sent already in the chat window, I think they are mostly being missed by players.

I would suggest that a large font notice could appear in the center of the UI screen at about 1/3 down from the top of the screen. This message can appear and stay on the screen for a few seconds and fade out.

Then (or), a static message can appear where the Early Access stamp used to be. This notice can remain as long as the client is not current; maybe with a slow pulsating affect.

Hit escape, click on the Multiplayer tab.

That might be a good idea. Right now the main way I know a new patch is probably available is when I get the "instance closing" message.

Note that some updates (you may notice quite a few numbers get skipped) may be back-end-only, when the client doesn't need changes, sometimes when there's an exploit found. Then you get forced to change areas to connect with the new version of the back-end server.

The game is (apparently) designed so that the back-end can support multiple client versions at the same time. The main limitation is that all players in the same instance must be running the same client version, because there's a P2P thing going on. The world can get very lonely if you are behind on patches.

But patches usually only happen for a week or so, then they go full into working on the next release. Perhaps in the future they may be able to get things working with fewer post-release patches.

Though this is true and it is fun to make things a challenge *in* the game, things like this should not require hunting or special knowledge to be aware of. Leveraging the Player UI to improve the players Quality of Life should be the first path if possible.

The instance closing message is a server side patch that you just need to switch or reload a scene to be fine. If it is a client side patch, when you switch you will get a notice you need to patch.

That only happens when it is a forced patch. Not all patches are forced.
