I interpreted that as it can hit 3 targets at once, for example , can apply poison to 3 targets at once instead of just a single target, can push/pull up to 3 targets at once. Pushing/pulling or poisoning a single target 3 times seems a little silly if they coded it that way.

 

How big is this trident? It'd have to be about 3ft+ wide

For min-maxers? You had to know it would get balanced eventually...

For other people, it will most likely be a character/aesthetic/RP choice. And that will be in line with every other weapon type.
