I think the steps to delete a character should be less easy to access, to avoid accidents.

Another solution would be to incorporate a CAPTCHA in confirmation dialog box.

Forget password, just sent an confirmation email with an link in it to really delete your character.

Your family, kid, friend or even some random hacker might know your password anyway...

But usualy nobody has access to your e-mail account, expecially not the hacker.
Unless ofc. you used the same pw for your e-mail account :D

This sounds like the best option. I nearly deleted mine by accident(normally because I'm in a hurry to click the other buttons to get in game.)

This seem like a rather long process to delete a character, and they would still have your password after you deleted your character via email, thus able to wreak havoc with your character, gold, items, etc.

I would also suggest adding the ability to back up a character(locally or remotely) in order to retrieve accidentally deleted characters, hacked/stolen accounts, etc.

I'd go for reentering the password or a captcha as confirmation. Even entering a "DELETE" as done in other games would help, but I'd prefer the password-check. Emailconfirmation would be too much for my taste, though...

Also would be best if a pop-up appeared explaining the details of account deletion. So that the player know that they should place all stuff on their avatar into a bank instead, etc.
I'd also throw in a couple of "Are you fully aware that you will X and Y and Z and that instead you could do A and B and C. Since there is usually no good reason to delete the avatar.

Yes, agree fully that the Delete Character button needs to be accompanied by a Password re-entry. Much too dangerous where it is now.

    Upvote on this suggestion!!

CAPTCHA or entering password is not secure at all, if someone has access to your account and wants to delete a char nothing prevents him from entering an CAPTCHA and/or your password again.
With an email confirmation the potential hacker is blocked again to delete your hard earned character.
Sure, he still can rob your account, but atleast he can't delete your lvl 100+ character.

Dunno, i prefer having a long and more secure process to delete my character, but that's just me i guess :D

moving the delete character option to in game would be nice. Having a 24 hour delay doesn't seem right, because i think most people want to delete a character and make a new one right away why the reasons for the deletion are fresh in the mind.

Having some sort of backup system would be good, maybe every two weeks a backup is made so techs can undelete from that copy in case of hacks or children. Why not? I know other games don't have this feature, and it's cheaper for Port. to just say 'no' but this is a new game, maybe a new feature or two could be a selling point.

Alternately, if the game would ever support 2FA for authentication, just ask for the code again upon character deletion. They may have your SotA password or your e-mail password, but now they'd also have to have your authentication code.

At the very least, if they're not going to implement 2FA for account login (which currently there are no plans for), then perhaps allow the option to protect it against character deletion, be it malicious or accidental, as they've stated they have no solution to undelete.

It's harder to log into the website than it is to delete your character. (So hard I just now use Steam to login.)

Also I've played games where you have to type the words 'please delete' which a fairly small child probably would not be able to do so that would help for that issue. Anyway I agree we need a warning, warning for deleting our characters. ;)
