    rdaskas,
On its own, I love this piece as a piece of music, but it is a bit off from what I would like to see for SotA. Here is some feedback to get it more "in line" with my hopes for the game.
    1) The pievce sound much more like a movie sound track, than a locally playable piece with a memorable melody
    2) Significantly decrease the large hall "reverb"
    3) Be sure you have a strong memorable melody that can be heard, remembered, hummed. That meody can be "played with" via transpositions or alternate melodies and forms, but at the end of listening, I should walk away with a lead in my head, in addition to the mood and feeling you captured well.

    A fine piece!
    Lord British Approved!

Worth noting that while I just gave rdaskas feedback to be sure his piece had more clear and forward melody, which this piece also does not have... in this case, as it is a piece for use IN a combat area, I think the more ambiance piece will also work. BUT, its dangerous to not have the clear and forward "melody" that I usually ask for... this piece happens to work without it due to its specific use.

    - Thanks

Love the piece, just a small request or two, then it will be approved.
    1) A bit less big hall reverb, as it seems more of an intimate space song.
    2) at :33 the "ho down" expansion comes in a bit hard and loud and "modernly", I would request that feel a bit softer, if possible.

    Else all set, thanks!

I will give final OK on the resubmit pass.

    Santa Clause,
Took this one last... wanted to listen to the rest of this group of submissions.
I prefer the "Final" version to the "Alt Final" version.
Fascinating and complex interplay in this one.
    Lets APPROVE that one, thanks!

Great composers, musicians and singers all!

Again, I am amazed at the diverse talents you all display here!
Our world will be greatly enriched by your continued efforts.
    I thank you deeply!
8 fully approved and 3 with requests for modifications I hope are not too taxing.

A few things to keep an eye on for pretty most all of you...
    1) Room size. Keep your pieces to small halls, not cavernous spaces, we can add but not subtract echo ourselves if needed.
    2) Melodies. I approved a few pieces that did NOT have clear up front melodies, which is my strong preference to have.
    3) Period sounding instrumentation, and riffs. I heard more deviation from "period sound and melodies this time, I encourage a more historical feel, when possible.

    MANY many thanks!

Oops did I miss posting comments on this?

    Jarrod,
Sorry, yes, I had held off on two when I first listened through.
Missed it when I circled back.
While I like the foundation, I had a number of comments!

    My critiques are:
The low, perhaps base guitar that comes in about :15, becomes stronger at :24, is too modern an instrument I think.
Kobold stuff should feel “clock punk”.
Even the bright piano, sounds too modern especially with all the other “moderninity” I feel it has now.
I like the piano riff, but think it needs both a new instrument (harpsichord?) and some variation (beyond the changeup at 1:36).
Similarly at :50 there is another electric guitar backing that rises and feels to modern to me.
Finally, the recording feels to be in a “large room”, and I think the feel should be more in crowded steamy halls.

I think the foundation is sound, with mostly just an instrument / tonal shift.

    Sorry to have missed it.
Will echo on the forums so others will see we connected and so that the feedback may help others too.
    THANKS!!!

    - Richard

Major Track "Kobold Invention", modified per the direction of Lord British and resubmitted for approval. Approved by Lord British!

    1. I completely removed all non-period instruments.
    2. I broke up the main piano melody to add variation.
    3. I added some additional xylophone as I find that really gives a "clockpunk" sort of feel, including one brief xylophone riff used in the other Kobold song to add a little continuity between the two
    4. I added plucked acoustic bass and in one area, bow-drawn acoustic bass to add a dramatic feel. This replaces the bass guitar and electric guitar with a much more period sound.
    5. I tried to use a few different instruments in place of the piano (a harpsichord as LB suggested) but it didn't sound right. So instead I used a combination of compression and some low-pass filters on the keys to reduce the overall brightness of the tone.
    6. I added a few lower volume "metal hits" to help add a gritty "steam tunnel" feel to the song.
    7. I removed all of the echo and reverb from the instruments to create the feel of a tighter, more confined space. (Except for the metal hits, as it makes sense for them to resonate)
    8. During the more tense moments I simulated a "tick tock" sound by alternating bass drum hits between the left and right channel.

    Heya Everyone!

I just went through and sent out a bunch of Approval notices. If you have a piece that has been submitted, please check it's state, as several need some tweaks before they are ready. As for the others that were approved, if I missed you or you don't have a PM from me, please be sure to ping me. :)
