Can you explain with a little more detail? Why shouldn't I heal my pet if I have <50% health?

Aside from that, I have learned to hold down the Alt key when I want to heal myself so that the spell doesn't affect only my pet. It has become such a habit that I hold the Alt key even when I am alone.

I'm confused about healing (the top spell in the tree is the only one I have). It seems to me that:
    • at one time the Heal spell only affected myself unless I targeted someone else.
    • then it turned into an AOE spell
    • then it started to default to target my pet, so if I'm dying and forget to press the Alt key, I'm toast. I wish it wouldn't do that.
I wish the heal spell would default to healing me, unless I specify otherwise.

Have to agree that healing self is difficult in a busy combat with party members or pet around. Will try the alt key...

Yeah there is ALT key for healing (or buffing) yourself, quick sel target without losing your real target.

If you do not care about your target, you can do F1 to target yourself, but I really prefer alt key.

I cannot stand the ALT key completely removed from key mapping so we can action on ourselves. Just why? Let me remap it to something else so I can use ALT+{key} for the mappings I want to create.

This is a symptom of the lackluster targeting system in this game.

What you say - targeting yourself or others is hard - of course it is - sad they we can not just heal like we used to be able to by targeting with f1 or a hot key.

Ah it is ok it is just the reticle / targeting - give it time , LoL

Since the very first day of it implementation the targeting / reticle has caused nothing but issues this on has been here since then also.

    Target Self

    Target Party Member

    Target Pet

NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO BE ASSIGNED TO A HOT KEY . . . .

We can heal ourselves when we target ourselves with F1. Or clicking our name. Or holding alt when casting. Targetting others is bit harder, F2-F8 keys work but you still have to target the right person and look at them.

    Amen.

The reticle thing is not growing on me. I still can't stand it. I want target lock.

I agree! I wish the heal spell would default back to healing me also. I don't understand why it was changed. If I want to heal my pet or another party member then I'll target them. I have my keys programmed into my trackball buttons so pressing ALT does not work for me, I have to press F1 to self-target when my pet/elemental is summoned. This is extremely annoying. The default behavior should be reverted back to heal me first unless I have someone (or something) else targeted.

Concur with using Alt, or hopefully remapping something in the future.

Having a rule like the OP isn't going to be helpful to all players, especially Necro magic users who get a near-death bonus.

What I think is a real bummer is when I clearly have someone targeted to heal and a random party member or pet steps between us and the heal hits them instead. (Especially if the target us about to die)

I should have more control over my magic.

Might try switching key bindings in the Controls menu.
Make it so a regular cast heals you, and an ALT+ cast heals your pet/party member.
Its a bit easier for me anyway.

The same issue for attacking. I'd really like to kill the mob I have targeted and who is attacking me, but I randomly shoot an arrow at a wolf 20 yards away, just because.

The targeting system needs a lot of help, no doubt about that. But the OP was about healing yourself, which has tools in place to fit it. Healing/killing others is a whole different bag of worms.

I agree with these comments. I would even be happy with F1-F8 assigned to players next to their names too.

I would prefer that healing yourself was the default, and that targeted healing was necessary for pets or friends. It's backwards. F1-F8 are fine, and work already, but aren't enough when the default still goes to the target under the reticle.

edit : someone is trying to increase their post count! :D jk
