It would be nice to have a hotkey, or even a button on the Compass, that would open the map of the current zone if you have it in your inventory. Finding it (especially if you have many, and are using the bag interface) can be time consuming.

If I were to use the bag interface (tough going back after having searchable list interface)...I might drop my current map in a small bag and just use that to open the map. I think too many things have been dumbed down for sake of "make it easy..." already...

The players can also come up with working solutions for things like this

one thing too would be a pocket watch like in Ultima 5 so you can see what time it is and be able to figure out when the lunar rift is changing to the next location...

Curious how many rifts and how well-linked they will be...

idk, i do expect the # of rifts to be limited and that each rift hits a limited # of locations as they have stated is the plan. Currently I am laughing at how many ppl expect lunar rifts to be fast travel to any location in the world.... ignorance is bliss...

A map section in your journal or a separate map 'pouch' could be a solution. I think it does need separating from the rest of the items.

I do hope it's really tied into the lunar cycles somehow...always loved that feel to Ultima games. Not just "wait 5 minutes" but have to wait for moon or moons to move into position, etc. The travel is convenient but by no means "fast"

Amen to that.... i always loved having to wait a while or go off and do other stuff (hole up and camp, etc) to pass time in the single player ultima games until the moongate was the right set, etc. 5 min is just too short a time, but being able to tell time and predict changes would be something that i think fits the story and world being created.... once of those things where balancing level of fantasy and realism is not always easy. :)

I dunno, I liked it in the single player game but there you had the option to camp or whatever to make time pass more quickly. Here you'd have to actually wait around for it. No time acceleration.

This exactly. It wasn't a big problem in the old SP games as you could just pass the time and use the gate. That won't be possible here. Plus time passes when you're offline. Traditional moongates would be a nightmare in SoTA

Couldn't you put the map in the tool bar?

That's what I did. But yeah, it does take up all those slots per map. Maybe we can put the Atlas book there to save slots.

But I do see the value (convenience) of an auto-key that brings up the current scene's map without having to waste a slot for it or search for it in your inventory. I mean, we don't have to put our Journal or Recipe Book in the hotbar to access it.

In R9 I was able to put the Ardoris map into my toolbar for hotkey reference

Not like there's really all that much else to put on that out-of-combat hotbar anyway.
