Nobody is relying on cannablism. It's just another feature, like anything else. It's not, "Shroud of the Dead Avatar, Episode 2: Pretty Hungry," it's "Shroud of the Avatar," a game built for roleplayers. Not Lawful Good roleplayers. Not Lawful Evil. Not Chaotic Evil. Or Neutral Neutral.

Yeah, you don't see positives... yet, I don't see any proof to back this argument.

Last I checked, The Walking Dead is an extremely popular TV show: plenty of cannibalism there.

Last I checked, very many high-selling games & top-sellers include cannibalism as well as many other deplorable options. None of them make it a focal point -- why should we? Let's just have it as an option. People like necromancers, like zombies, like gritty, nasty, smelly things as entertainment.

People are not as turned off as you think. Again: if they implement cannibalism and other sinister deeds as a non-focal point, will YOU leave this game?

So, what's that about no ideas?

Again, I'm inviting all in favor of this to join me in brainstorming. Right now I'm with my family and we're all terribly hungry ( ), so tomorrow I'll be opening a dialogue via private conversations (provided that multiple people can participate one -- I haven't tried yet). Independently, I'll be thinking about this for some time.

As it is, this is obviously something that players will have to hide in any decent, upstanding town. I don't know if they've made progress on wilderness housing, but this is certainly something to hide from the public.

 

It could be that some other game is sandboxy enough to mix evil and PvP. But that isn't this game. All of this only leads to toxic play. I'm simply not interested in anything asymmetric.

I'm also highly skeptical of tempting a player towards evil behavior even in pure single player. The game is supposed to be about moral dilemmas "should I be honest or compassionate", not "should I hunt and kill other people so I can eat their bodies."

 

I think that to display it on your house would certainly be barred. However, I don't know that it's illegal to wear human body parts/possess them. At least, not in the city that I live in.

But, yes, decoration becomes tacky after a certain point, I agree. For sure, this would have to be a hidden nature of characters living amongst the public. In the wilderness? Hmm.. I think that anything could go, really.

I don't see a problem with cannibalism on the face of it... it would primarily be about adding more color and more openness to the world. In Tolkien's work, orcs ate the flesh of men, plus they were implied to also be cannibalistic and eat the flesh of other orcs. That was certainly not for shock; it was for color, to graphically make a point about the nature of orcs. The biggest problem with including it in the game that players can always be expected to act juvenile and misuse things that can potentially be used tastefully. Ie. nudity could also be used tastefully in a game, but if players were allowed to do it tastefully, I doubt they'd do it. It would cause more problems than its worth. So for those reasons, most RPGs, SotA included will put people in loincloths rather than making them nude.

Its not really a problem with me if its in the game as long as the devs figure out a way to prevent it from getting out of control. Its something they need to think about and not simply the "cool" aspects of it.

 

I get the community's hesitation, but I think that this goes without saying. I doubt that they would throw in something like this with no limitations or downfalls...

 

I think that there is room for a lot in the game as long as its well taught out and ideally fits with the world that is being created (in a logical manner)

I'll be your yang! Let's do this. I would still like there to be issues with this kind of behavior. I'd see angry mobs burning my manor. NPCs HATING me. The Oracle giving me the "her again" look. I'd actually like it to be so bad that my character would have to go to great lengths to conceal these activities in any sort of collective. Am I just a cannibal or your complete polar opposite? (I don't know if I could pull that off but I'll try. This sounds like a great roleplaying experiment.)

Yeah I've been reading the thread.

So you don't see any reason not to put it in others don't see how it can do harm despite the number of people who've stepped in declaring their disgust. Just that people coming in here at all should at least send you guys a little red flag that hey.. maybe a lot of people really don't want this one.

So Walking Dead is it.. that would be cable wouldn't it? Does it have say.. living cannibals cause that sounds a lot like zombies to me. Cause what's been talked about here isn't people RPing zombies. Remember context.

The point I'm trying to make here is that using shock value content to sell doesn't equal long term popularity. Top sellers.. ratings.. here's what.. I bet Duck Dynasty out performs Walking Dead any night of the year. I would even considering betting that The Sims has outsold all those other games you're thinking of. Not that I've ever seen Duck Dynasty mind you.. but I never see Walking Dead calendars or t-shirts when I go shopping either.

 

meh.. ok maybe my guess on TV ratings wasn't as spot on as I would've liked. Still.. not talking zombies.. talking living people so it's kinda moot anyway.
