    If I remember correctly from a long while back, Tracy Hickman convinced RG to add elves after he was brought on to help with the story. I haven't read too much of his stuff but I did read the Annals of Drakis trilogy and those elves were most definitely not beautiful.

    They had magic that made them look beautiful but once that was done away with, the humans were not so impressed.

    Elves are specifically not the stereotype for many reasons. It was a very intentional choice.

    So, it appears that not very many people have read Blade of the Avatar, so they don't understand. Maybe they'll read the Sword of Midras when it comes out soon. Or at least learn the lore in-game so they will understand how the elves (and other non-human races) came into being. Rather than expecting everything to be just like other books and games.

    +10,000,000 Yes please, Elves are currently oh so unappealing. And while you're at it, can we get Elves and Orcs as playable races?

    When I say Orcs, I mean Skyrim Style... beautiful Orcs, males and females just slightly larger than humans, not the huge hulking morons from WOW or WarHammer. (But oh my, did I ever love me some WarHammer though).

    Oh, do! To capsulize, these creatures were designed to be ruthless squad commanders (IIRC) by the Obsidians using the mutating magic of the Shardfalls. It was only after people saw them that they were called elves because of their resemblance.

    On second thought, leaving the Elves ugly and making Orcs beautiful would be a very cool change.

    @Lum,

    At one point, there were plans in the work for a different look for the "good elves", though. Is this still planned, or is it shelved?

    WoW orcs are hardly morons! Well... Maybe the peons... I always loved WoW orcs though. Thrall is my hero.

    I generally don't care for races that are basically the same as humans with slight differences.

    Anyone remember Horizons? Could play as a dragon... Now that's a race choice!

    Maybe this thread is about "to have beautiful elves" or to have the ugly current ones named in a different way: I think SotA devs have fantasy enough to imagine a name for a race which can't be "elves".
    If I'm wrong, there are even tools for that.

    I won't start a religion's war about that, but remember what A. Lincoln said about writing in vain...
