They're still a waste of time for anyone over level 50. I had about an hour to play this morning and I've wasted 50% of that going into and out of encounters. Every time I'd run well past the encounter before the game decided I'd been caught which is another really annoying thing, there's no way to judge whether it's a waste of time to continue attempting to escape.

I killed everything in the first one and barely took a scratch. Although I picked up all the resources I might as well have just purchased what I got from a vendor, it would've been quicker.

Either make encounters scale (both in enemies and resources) to a level appropriate to the character or give as an option to avoid them altogether until you have development capacity to actually make them worthwhile and interesting.

Tried it twice. Stopped to kill a troll once, ran through it the second time. Will run through it every time in future. What purpose do you think it serves other than to subject us to two loading screens even if those loading screens are shorter now?

They have the same purpose as Seiges

Sieges have XP, resources and artefacts. Encounters have none of those things.

drag skeletons and bandits far off the path .... they turn into a more challenging group of foes a lot of the times

Random encounters probably need to be re-thought.

If there's going to be two loading screens between them, they can't be treated like monsters in the forest in UO or the ultima series. There needs to be some serious reward that makes them worth the time.

They're locations are definitely not random. Maybe have them on larger more interesting paths? Also, very frustrating when you leave one and another one has generated so soon that you're now 4 loading screens to move forward because you get pulled back in immediately after leaving.

I get wood, raw cotton, gold ore, and silver ore from encounters on the overland map all the time. They do have resources.

They have about as many resources as a single siege engineer (last time I did a siege, anyway, heard there's been some recent changes).

I have gotten artifact from encounter, so maybe that is your incentive to do them more.

Unless you can prove that more artefacts drop per hour spent in encounters than they do in, for example, the Mage room in the Rise then no, it isn't. If that was the case then people would be running around the map looking for encounters because encounters would the the thing they want to do, just like players will currently go around the map seeking out sieges.

If I have an hour to play and a thing I want to do, then I want to be doing that thing not spending my hour in encounters.

What if they just made the lower level encounters not pursue higher level avatars? It wouldn't completely resolve your disdain for them, but it sounds like it would help.

Yes, that would fit my suggestion in OP.

You can pull an artifact from any 3 skull mob.
Doesnt make random encounters anything more then an annoyance for a lot of people.

That should have been thought out...

I was really for the random encounter, tighter passes and all... but I have to admit its done completely wrong, even at low levels I would run past them.

Now I just want a "quick combat" button and no loading screens for it :p

I NEVER thought I'd say this...

What are you trying to do, compare the rise to a encounter. That doesnt make much sense at all, now does it

You suggested spending time in encounters to get artifacts, that is what doesn't make much sense.
