Per this post, the Elven Woodwind Longbow should produce a pettern when salvaged, but it does not. My bow turned to scraps only.
Successfully salvaged an item (Elven Woodwind Long Bow) for Wood Scrap x18.

Per this post, items with patterns should always produce patterns.
To answer your other question when you salvage an item with an Eternal Pattern you always get the pattern.

They do drop, i found 2 so far, just not everytime. The Elven Woodwind Bow is also not a eternal pattern, just normal pattern.

I see. That could probably be made more clear that the items listed only have a chance to drop a pattern.

    • Kobold Chain Sword

These recipes are meant to be extremely rare. With high level salvage, expect something in the neighborhood of 1% or less.

I think that level of rareness is extreme. 1% chance is excessive for a one time use cosmetic change.

I appreciate you letting us know. I was very excited by the patch notes, but this just totally took the wind out of my sails. Before I found this post, I spent two hours grinding undead in DR and got ONE Lich Axe. Killed probably 20-30 Lich Fighters. I salvaged the axe (salvage skill is 40) and didn't get a pattern.

At this drop rate, I will need to first lvl my Salvage to a high level (90? 120? i dont know...) PLUS kill 3000+ Lich fighters just to be able to get a pattern that I can use ONE time.

    Way too rare.

Patterns should be fun, not a grind. Please reconsider.

Even Salvage GM doesnt helped me much. 1% would be ok for a recipe but not for a pattern

I wouldn´t get hung up over the stated 1%, i don´t think it´s at that rate. I found 2 Bow patterns by salvaging 50 bows max. So no, a pattern does not drop everytime you salvage, but it´s still not hard to get them if you keep at it. My salvaging level is currently at 97.

I got two kobold hammer patterns last night. No idea how many I salvaged though, I just do is as I go when mining.

The success seems to be purely Random. I know someone who got a pattern with 1 salvage and a 79 skill. I know a GM who got Zero patterns after 300 salvages.

A 1% chance does not guarantee 1 pattern out of every 100 tries. Fail 99 times? The next try is still 1%. It's almost entirely luck.

This may be a system worthy of tweaks in the future if we consider it too extreme. From a design perspective, we see these as items that we want players to get excited about because of their rarity, which gives them greater value than flooding an economy with them in the first weekend they were introduced. :)

    Thanks for the feedback.

Good choice. Being honest if we want new stuff being "special", at least for first weeks, this is the way to get this feel of rare things imho. I'm excited to get these patterns ingame, even if I know people can get them from the store.

I think you explaining the thought processes behind the decision really helped to clarify the place of these items in our world.

    Thanks!

With a rare drop rate for the items followed by an even rarer success rate, I've gone from Excited to Why Bother in a weekend. I have lots of other stuff to do that may yield practical instead of cosmetic results. And that's all patterns are, cosmetic. I am better served mining for iron/gold/silver to make better weapons with Master Crafting and Enchantments (even with the current failure rate for MC/Enchant) than to spends hours to get a one use only pattern to make a weapon look different.

A side effect of this too is it is now another money sink. Instead of me making some gold selling Kobold hammers I have salvaged about 150 of them and not got 1 pattern. And lost the money I could have got selling the hammers. I do wish it was a little better drop rate but at this rate I feel almost better to just keep selling hammers and buy pattern from someone LOL

    Welcome to player driven economies.

What you suggest of sell in the hammers and buying a pattern off someone else that did the grind, that is EXACTLY how it should work, if the players selling the patterns are undervaluing them.

You can sell the scrap and get nearly the same amount you would have gotten if you had just sold them outright.
