Details: I am back for my exclusive bug reports pertaining to upgrading items that have the term "merchant" in their title. Fancy Merchant gear (as far as I know, the Shirt and the Pants) are not masterworkable. I find it likely that the other Fancy Merchant gear (hat, gloves, boots I believe) are probably also not masterworkable. Note that the Fancy Merchant Shirt can be gem-socketed , and both it and the pants are enchantable and gain bonuses from Tier 2 materials.
Also it appears that @Lace has started a compilation of these quirks on an older release bug forum post.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get tired of your old regular Merchant Pants and Shirt that you made to look like a monk's robes.
2. Craft Fancy Merchant gear to replace it!
3. Attempt to masterwork them.
4. Be sad.

my peasant gear was the opposite, could be masterworked, could not be gem-socketed. was very sad, wanted to get sunlight on them.
