Faster D/l of patch?

sigh. still patching.... I am going to miss my fix tonight....

 

This is the most excruciatingly painful download of any patch to date. Hope to get it patched by the next millennia

 

@Chris @DarkStarr @Attenwood There are three different threads about the terribly slow patching today. Is there anything that you folks can do or tell us about?

OK, so how do you link your account to steam? I can add a non steam game, but that just seems like its just going to run the same thing

 

I was able to download the remaining 50% of this patch in about 15 minutes using uTorrent. The first 50%, using the SotA Launcher, took 10 hours. I'm not sure what kind of snag could exist on your end except for a problem with the launcher itself. Torrents are after all, peer to peer.

EDIT :

To answer your question, the patcher hung up, and after canceling it, wants to redownload the whole game. Of course I'm using uTorrent now for that. I would suggest improving the patcher to give us some indication that it's working and not hung. And to make it close when asked instead of Not Responding. And to make it work as fast as other torrent apps

 

Holy mother of download.. Yes, use the torrent.. Wow. I just hooked it up and my down speed is already up to over 3mg/s. Thanks for the tip!

 

One more hour for me and that makes 12 hours... and I'm at 69% and rising ... rising... rising... slooooowly ...

I am like 7% in 5 hrs. Eternal download. Haha. The bright side is I finally get my much need rest.

 

I'm just going to wait until tomorrow. Hope they find and fix whatever is broken in the patcher. I don't actually have a torrent program installed, and don't really want to go get one...

 

For me steam patcher is far far faaaaaar faster and superior.

 

Well as i said i patched on steam in 20 mins. Going through Sota i am stuck at 45percent. So yeah its gotta be something with the patcher. Although my hubby got his done quick and was able to log in and play for an hour or two. Grrrr. I am going to bed. Will fight with it tomorrow

 

It's good now , for me , the patch works properly and quickly , without Steam or using Torrent.

OK. So a bit extreme.I am now in by 10.5hrs+ on patching 480 - 481. Am currently at 33%. Yay...a third of the way through.....

It will sit at 0KB/s for 5 minutes ....then give a little burst up to 100KB/s max for 30 - 60 seconds....then no thing...

ETA 1.5 days....

wow... don't stay up for the download, even if you do torrent... because applying the patch is no fast thing. Just sayin.

 

Agree to all of the problems here. Only morbid curiosity keeps me going at this point. Like Timelord I am now 12 hours in and only at 68%. Long periods of 0kbs to "blast" up to a blazing 100kbs. (pretty sure I can scream ones and zeros into a phone line faster than that!)

So, other than just venting frustrations and sympathizing with others on this thread, I do need to point out that most people don't want to use a third party like a torrent site to patch a game. If the patcher isn't really a viable option people will complain .. ok, so that is a foolish comment, duh, see above. But, really, the patcher needs to work and work flawlessly. Just telling people to use Steam (while a great service) is not an answer. What if you stopped into my class and I told you I was not actually going to be teaching you, but you could pay me, then drive to the next town over where some other guy whom you don't want to learn from is going to teach you? Would you be happy?

 

direct download (turned seed off) i did a full download in fifteen minutes, and then patches went like a dream.
steam download i finished in nine minutes, but it took another three minutes to finish the update.
qa direct download had zero problems except i *twitch twitch* can't get my fix there yet *grin*
