    Hi all,

I'd like to offer some feedback about the "slowdown" effect that occurs when a player runs into an NPC.

It's rather frustrating to be running through town while typing only to be slowed down (and not even have a way to be able to get out of it easily) by an NPC who happened into my path (or me into her/his path). The whole thing feels sluggish.

Now for enemy NPCs I can kind of understand something like this... however in town... ouch. I like that they yell at me "Get out of my way!" and such... but really... we should be able to brush by NPCs, friendly animals and friendly PCs in town and not be stuck by them.

Ever been in Manhattan, New York? Yep they are working on it. Pretty sure it's on a list somewhere. Until then I pretend it's Logan's Run.;);)

This is one of my more hated features of the game. Right up there with the new targeting system.

I wouldn't mind as much if I could smash those watchers.

We should be able to push them aside, or have them move aside, and be able to step over watchers, or have them scurry away.

Still, the most annoying thing about it is not slowing down when directly running through someone (if that should be possible), but walking alongside someone and, just because you're sufficiently close, you slow down.

I don't really like when they walk into me and I slow down, but I guess it's kind of nice in a way that people aren't running through the NPCs and other players.
They could have made them solid instead and people would go around them - but then you get in trouble with physically blocking people into spaces.

    Watchers should watch without influencing.
In other words they should strive to not stand in the way.

On a side note: If I run into an NPC, then they can shout at me all they want. But it happens that a couple of times they walk into me... and then tell me to watch my step. Really? o_O

I really don't mind the slow-down. It does make it feel like I'm bumping into things.

What I do mind is that it seems as long as you're occupying the same space, you continue to be slowed until you separate. If you bump into a traveling NPC, you're stuck being slowed until one of you manages to get unstuck.

Just do a hit of slow and then give us a moment of invulnerability from it plz thx. ;)

Drain some focus for it like we do for jumping. Just like UO and stamina.

Yah right? It takes a few years of living in NYC before you can learn to run through subway stations in rush hour without touching a single person. Also, given the general size and population density here, a lot of people are not skilled at walking at all, and Im always joking about Bill Burr's "In-the-Way People" line in my head (it only seems rude to people who dont live here!). I like imagining that cities like Ardoris feel like midtown-Manhattan at 9:45am on a Tuesday - youre going to have to navigate around a few people.

I like the effect as is. The NPCs are right - you should watch where youre going! The slowdown should just be imagined as the time it takes the two of you to untangle the tassels, strings, buttons, zippers, or whatever got stuck into each other as you collided, and also the time for you both to be all befuddled at the other person for being "in the way".

Do you have any idea how many times I couldnt get off the subway train cuz two oblivious persons collided and have to untangle their ipod/iphone headphone wires? Or a woman's sweater was stuck on the pin coming out of some guy's backpack? Its usually the iphone headpones...

There is one exception to the NPC slowdown: The guard in the default POT template that is now spammed as most NPC towns and PRTs that is positioned in the doorway of the bank. He needs to get out of my way!

The slowdown should be directional; like, if you're walking away from someone you go faster than if you're walking into them. And also you're slower the closer you are to the person's center.

Though I hope they replace the slowdown with something more real feeling. Playing Witcher, running towards people, and watching them get out of the way or being knocked back is fun.

I wish there were some way to test this theory without digging through the forums for where you read this!

PS> I always run through town in combat mode now.
