(in best shop keeper from the movie Aladdin voice) Ahhh, I see you have an eye for the exotic? An interest in the more interesting, ancient and forgotten... Let me tell you a story about this marvelous Faded Pattern... (eyes squinting in a knowing way....)
Long ago, this was once a Pattern that could be salvaged from the "Nomad's Hat", once a crafted version of the Virtue Nomad's Hat and the Brown Nomad's Hat. When Patterns were first introduced to the game, these finely crafted items were given a pattern of their own -- even if they didn't require a pattern because they were crafted.
A very few crafters noticed this mistake but thought nothing of it, as it did nothing for them. If they did salvage these hats for their patterns, it mattered little. They lost a hat and gained a useless pattern. A few tested it to see what it did and kept a few.
The Guildmasters (aka Devs) were not happy with these patterns as they were not intended, and they were also a bit unhappy with the name of the Nomad's Hat because it seemed like something too close to the Add-On store and Quest versions. So they decided to rename the craftable Nomad's Hats to "Brown Fur Hats" and in the process, removed the ability to get more patterns from them.
And with magics never before seen, they CURSED all of the existing patterns so that none may read the instructions! All that remains is the picture of the old Nomad's Hat, faintly visible, next to the faded writings. Crafters can still feel the magical forces around these papers, which will diminish in time as the letters on the parchment fade into obscurity on their own...
This pattern, truly a rare with a unique origin, was placed for sale in Novia market over a year ago. It was my intention to see if anyone at all understood what it was, and if they had a deeper interest in collecting the oddities and curiosities of the land. I'm not sure how many exist in game, but I can vouch for only for less than a dozen. Few people had an interest in these hats, and fewer still had an interest in the patterns until after they were zapped. Is it worth 10K? It doesn't really do anything aside from occupying space but it can be displayed from a chest... and of course, tell a good story.
But for some... Its the history that matters.
