Floating names have been around for as long as I can remember. In an online game it is one of the best ways to quickly identify other players. I do however agree for some reason I can't put my finger on...they are an eyesore in this game. We have the option of turning them off...which is nice. But we definitely need a mouse over option so we can still identify other players. I found myself double clicking on characters to bring up their 'paper-doll' a few times as well.

The part I highlighted in orange is the only part I agree with. There is no need to label the animals, as it just creates additional clutter.

I said this of NPC names in PA1 and 2, and I'll say it again now for player names, they are too big and the font is rough.

I think until character customizations include more features, using the name plates is kinda a necessity.
I know in ESO with the character customizations, I can easily recognize another person after meeting them (much as with RL) without needing a name cue.
