He started on the Free account through Steam. Can he buy through the website, a bundle, and then link it to his current Steam character?

Should be able to. As long as his account is linked to Steam, he should be able to add a bundle. (be sure it's linked before adding the bundle to be safe).

So on the account page (in the Game/Client download tab) he should see that it is linked to his Steam account. if it's not, that needs to be done first.

I do not use Steam but I am linked to it. . I pledged through the website. Have your friend look under 'account'. If he has the bundle he will have the bundle. Sorry I'm not very clear ;) His bundle will show up on his account page and that is what matters most.

Link steam account, then buy bundle?

I know about linking, I just want to make sure he gets to keep his character. Otherwise he'll probably opt for buying through Steam and lose out on the bonus stuff.

If he's playing through Steam then he already has an account - it's part of the setup process. Try using the 'Login with Steam' option on the website.

This bit confuses me - how did he get a free account through Steam? The game has never been free on Steam.

I have a steam account and have bought many items from the store.
all items are linked to the account you created whether it is attached to steam or not.

When buying a bundle it is added to the existing account, so the character remains intact. (so just making sure the Steam account is linked to his website account is the only prerequisite that should be required before applying a bundle.

He can also link the Steam to the regular client, just use the same name and e-mail used for the Steam account.

We did this yesterday and it automatically added to my account here. I gifted my husband's membership through Steam as well and he just had to manually add the Steam information on his account here :)

YAY I actually knew the answer to something! Now if I only knew where I was most of the time in the game haha :D

Unfortunately, the map doesn't load at all times. I was actually going to ask if there was a trick to get it to load. For the very first time, at about 12:00am PST it finally loaded on the Novia map and I managed to get around for the first time. Yes, I am aware of SotAmap.com but the in-game map is much easier to use. Thank you!

Sotamap.com and the in game map are done by the same gamer, who is not a developer - just a gamer who can also write code.
He has not been able to completely map everything, and is working on it. No trick, just he has not gotten around to every detail - or every map.

Also on the upper right hand corner of your in game screen the first icon gives you the option to turn on Sota Map and adjust it to view it. More updates to it are in the works so it works better for us, but at least finally we got a map of the map haha. To me that sounds funny, but you better believe we needed a map of the map. I get lost all the time, so you are not alone and I've been here for many moons ;)

There are actually a good number of coder/gamer who are working to make the game better with data, add-ons, and plenty of people doing the QA so that as many bugs as can be fixed are fixed.

I love this. I love that there is SO MUCH player input into the game. I find that is the brilliance of UO and now this game is how much we all must interact with each other.
