Fustian Straps: What am I not getting?

I have been putting Fustian Straps on things because Suet is relatively plentiful and I assumed it would be better than a regular cloth strap.

However, Cloth Straps give a static bonus of +10 focus, while a Fustian Strap adds 0.2% focus. If you had 1000 focus, you would gain 2 extra point of focus.

For a Fustian Strap to be at par with a Cotton Strap, you would need 5,000 base focus.

Is there something I am not getting?

No, but apparently I've been missing it for a long time. I didn't even notice they were so useless compared to cotton. I sent a message to one of the devs so they could pass it along to whoever balances crafting materials. Hopefully they can figure out a way to make them useful.

 

Hm. It used to be that you got the bonus for the base (cotton) and the upgrade (fustian). So +10 focus per strap, and +.2% per strap. Did that change, or is this a bug?

 

I didn't realize that. I saw this post a few days ago and checked it in game myself and its def only .2%. I'll go bug report it.

 

I believe that's how it's supposed to work for tier two components, but I can't for the life of me find the thread where this came up previously, which is where I learned of it.

Looking on the wiki, it looks like this is not uniformly applied. I don't know if that is on purpose or not. I might be wrong.

 

Either way, it needs an adjustment.

If it was +10 & +.2% it would at least make a lot more sense than it does right now.

Just to be clear, when I said it used to be that way, I was making an assumption that because they were supposed to work that way, that they actually once did. It may have only been correctly applied to some components, and not all of them.

 

Selling fustian straps.

 

I was using bronze bindings but the +0.1% damage resistance is completely worthless, so I switched to constantin.

 

Im not home to check, but I think they add damage now, not damage resist...

Like posted above, this has been in the game for so long, I remember someone trying to sell me putting those on my gear, and I kept doing the math ober and over and couldn't figure out why someone would take them over cotton straps. Guess it has to be a bug

 

Not so much a bug as a “bonus” that wasn’t really thought through, but that hasn’t happened before...

 

They are in archives buried deep. Totally ignored. The reason I did it 3 times was because it was broken for 3 successive builds, so I reposted for each build. Gave up after 3.
