    I use MSI Afterburner (free software, works with all video cards) for video capture, it can use software codecs like xvid and you can allocate as many or few capturing threads as you want. Saves a ton on disk space, and will do full frame, half frame, or quarter frame, whatever you configure, with audio or without.
    Then VirtualDub (also, free) for editing, cropping and recompression, if necessary.
    Don't need anything else, myself, these have worked well for many years.

    On my Mac I use this software to create SotA videos:

    - ScreenFlow to record SotA game play video, to edit the video, Add in other video clips, add in music, plus create transitions. Also used to export directly to YouTube.

    - iTunes (comes with any Macintosh for free) To create the Intro and Ending Credit clips.
