Pillars of Eternity was on sale on Steam for 50% off last week and I almost bought it, but then I realized I didn't have time to start out on a new game...

I thought I had played all of the King's Quest series.. but I don't recognize that one. Looks like a remake? Apart from PIllars I haven't even heard of any of the others.

Odd. I'm not sure how I feel about a new KQ. Does it live up to the originals? I'd hate to play it and be disappointed.

These are good games, though I would have to question the necessity to have at least played once in your life.

You need to go back a few years to capture all the games you should have played in your life.

    Ultima 7
    System shock
    Bard's tale
    Might and Magic.
    Kings Quest(original ones)
    Gabriel Knight
    and on and on...

This game is brilliant in any way.
the same guys who worked on the old ones worked on this one.
Humor is on point, the story is owsem and you have a lot of choices.
If you are a fun you have to play it and all others dont miss out on this game.

edit it might be by the way one of the prices in the deco contest ;)

The original KQ games were designed by Ken and Roberta Williams. I don't believe they worked on the new one.

If I had to recommend one game people should play before they die, it would be Planescape: Torment.

CRPGs that influenced me greatly (a very incomplete list):

    Older:
Ultima 5 and Ultima 7 - out of all the Ultimas these were my favorite
Final Fantasy 6 - man, I can't tell you how many hours I spent grinding on dinosaurs to get my pixel people levels
Baldur's Gate 2 Trilogy - now THAT was an epic adventure
Planescape: Torment - what CAN change the nature of a man?
Ultima Online - the first online game that really showed what other people could add to an RPG (for good and ill)

    Newer:
Skyrim - this is the Elder Scrolls title that knocked it out of the park for me, until then they were basically tech demos (little known fact: I maintained the most popular fan site for Daggerfall back in 1997...)
Fallout: New Vegas - loved the atmosphere and the mods (much like Skyrim) kept me playing for well over a year
Mass Effect 1 - this game just NAILED the "space opera" feel, far more than its sequels. It felt like you starring in a Babylon 5 movie.
Final Fantasy 15 - for a game that was pretty meh when it launched, man these guys rescued it. It has its rough edges but is still a very compelling entry in the Final Fantasy series.
Lord of the Rings Online - this game really delivered on depicting Middle Earth's atmosphere. There are quite a few people who never leave the Shire (one of the three new player areas) just because of it.
Star Wars: The Old Republic - there's just a sheer complete overload of content here and much of it is good. Bioware is making an interesting pivot with this game to keep it going (emphasizing story over MMO).

Most people seem to prefer ME2 over ME1. Is there a reason you went with 1?

SWTOR - If SOTA someday has a companion system like SWTOR I will be *VERY* happy.

    Outcast - PC
Castlevania - Symphony of the Night - various Sony game outlets
    Super Metroid - SNES
    Magician - NES
    Shadowgate - NES
Dragon Warrior - NES (I can't tell you just how seared the overworld map tune is in my brain)
    Animal Crossing - GameCube
    Grandia II - Dreamcast
    Cybersled - arcade (HANZ BAIRD!)
    Gone Home - PC
    Portal - PC
Star Wars Galaxies PRE-NGE (played in beta, then stopped due to lack of funds)
    Freelancer - PC

    • Diablo
    • Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim
    • Myth: The Fallen Lords
    • Star Wars: Tie Fighter
    • Dark Castle (if you own a Mac ~ any other version is garbage)
    • EGA Star Trek
    You mean FF14, right?

ME2 was more a standard action movie. ME1 had a lot more of the "sense of wonder" associated with space opera. At least for me.

SWTOR - the entire focus of that game is the companion system. While we'll have them it's not our complete focus like it is with them. We also have about 1% of SWTOR's budget.
