I would like to put forth the Schnauzer as the German house pet.

They're energetic, majestic, and come in combinations of gray, white, and black.

They're super-cute and have dope beards.

They can also be menacing if they have to.

    What do you think?

I had a purebred dog like that in real life when I was younger. It was not very bright and when we called to it, he would just stand and stare at us...forever. Eventually he was hit by a car because a utility person left the gate to our backyard open and he got out. I really didn't like that dog.

I would vastly prefer a schnauzer to the almost-inevitable dachsund or German shepherd >.>

I own a Shepherd in real life, it's a very smart dog. But I don't know that it fits into the world of SotA all that well.

I love GSDs, don't get me wrong! Fabulous dogs. It's just so over-done for any kind of 'German' themed pet >.>

I agree. I'm still hoping for an Irish Wolfhound for the unique hunting dog.

I was speaking specifically of the German pet reward. An Irish Wolfhound is prety cool; reminds me of my dog in Skyrim.

I think a Daschund, while novel, is not a very fast dog and therefore wouldn't be my first choice in a companion pet.

German Shepards are awesome; my aunt and uncle have had pairs of them for as long as I can remember. They're big, huggable, and strong. But I wanted something more off the beaten path, so I was leaning toward a Schnauzie.

@Venger, I am sorry about your dog. Hearing that made me sad.

The Schnauzers I have known have been varied in personality; one pair in particular... the male was dumb as a sack of bricks but had a great heart and was veryv love-y. The female was a total b-, but smart as heck and even had a sense of humor. Oh, and she adored me ;) but I generally get along really well with animals.

Thank you both for your feedback, though. I'm hoping this gets some traction.

Don't be. I never liked that dog. I didn't want to see anything bad happen to it, but it was just a really dumb dog that was annoying so any loss I might feel over it would be contrived at best.

Good luck lobbying for the German dog of your choice. I don't think it would be a bad alternative.

While we're lobbying for new dogs, how about a bernise mountain dog as the German dog?

I think the Giant Schnauzer would work out great. Maybe even the standard. I would skip the miniature.

I considered several other breeds, but admittedly quite selfishly, I wouldn't want them as "unique" and thusly unattainable by me ( :) ). But the German Shorthaired Pointer, the Weimaraner and the Great Dane would all make fine additions to SotA. All three are visually striking and not the "common fair" for dogs in gaming.

So we're on the same page...here's a good example of each:

    (Can't have just one Dane.... :D )

Although I love the Bernese Mountain Dog, as well as the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, I wouldn't necessarily call it a German dog. I've always associated those two with Switzerland. But still...having one of them in the game would be great.

For those not familar with the breeds, here they are:

    The Bernese Mountain Dog -

And the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog looks similar with the biggest differences being the shorter hair and being a touch larger -

Tbch, I hadn't heard of the bernise mountain dog until I found one in Germany. So, I took it home with me and assumed they were mainly German. Why are all the coolest dogs on that side of the world anyway?

giving a new player a german shepard as a pet in a new world, would be like giving dynamite to a newborn.

I personally would prefer a husky. Possible we can aswell get some kind of wolfhound. But from the german dogs i saw for now, i woudn't take one, even when i am aswell from germany.
