since the game is relatively pointless (due to impending character wipes) to grind, we should be paid to report bugs.

i know people want to support the game, and pledging is good, so is free labor, and free QA is a good way to support even more. AND:

please offer store credit for properly reported bugs. probably very easy to ask someone to moderate the bug forum and sort the reports. it will increase the professionality of the bug reports. I feel it will give "octoberians" something more productive to do than grumble in the forums. thank you

no, you should report bugs because you want the game to work and to help.

however, if they decided to offer some kind of in game stuff after reporting so many bugs, that might be a neat thank you, but not necessary.

There would also be legal implication. Such a policy could be interpreted by a lawyer as employment, which could then be used against Portalarium with 'employees' bringing suit against the company suing for their rights.

Pretty sure that lawyer would be sanctioned, at least in the US, for bringing that claim.

I figured our reward for bug reporting is pre-alpha access.

no, the reward for backing the game a couple years ago was pre-alpha access.

also, a simple disclosure statement check box would solve those legal issues.

Are you trying to say Forum Lawyers don't know what they're talking about? But I get all my legal advice from ForumLawyerZoom.com!

Years ago my father (now retired) used to tell me stories about people that worked with him. They would give him all kinds of advice. He'd always listen and then politely tell them that he didn't "get his (legal, sports betting, politics, etc..) advice from the guy that ran the forklift at the plant". Then he'd just walk away.

I feel like that here all the time.

    :)

I mean, I wonder if getting your tenth sandwich free at Potbelly creates an employer/employee relationship. Perhaps the forum lawyers could comment.

I wouldn't want to ask them, I hear taking free legal advice can result in claims of being employed by the forum lawyers. This is complex stuff.

There is enough perceived favoritism around this game and its backers already. So, no.

Yes, in all seriousness bug reporting should be done for the good of the community as a whole. And the forum members who are playing early releases seem to be uncovering and reporting TONS of bugs. Don't think we need an economic incentive to 1) do something that should be done out of community spirit and 2) is happening now without any economic incentive.

ah i see. We simply differ on 'SHOULD be done out of community spirit'.

i will rephrase: please pay ME to report bugs in store credit - i will sign any legal documents. I will stop grumbling in the forums and focus solely on professional bug testing and reporting. Thank you

Ask Richard about the case brought against Origin Systems by the volunteer Councilors in Ultima Online for employment rights.

Sorry not a good idea, what is the point, just don't test or perhaps have some fun doing it. If you
don't feel like this is an opportunity of a lifetime to be let into this phase of a game being made,
then that is your perogative. Many people are very happy about it. So if you'd like join in on the
fun, do some RP but if you are a loaner, and I understand that since sometimes I am, then it may not be as fun.:)

oops edited loaner verses loner, ahhh majoria *sighs*

you know, that's a very good point, and i should have thought much more before i typed: i admit my limitations and gracefully bow out at this time - it'll be better for everyone. I'll pop in each month to see if it gets playable. I was looking forward to this game since october, and i 'should' really devote my energy somewhere more productive. I was thinking it is about time someone ported 'overworld zero' from system shock 2 to phone, i should crack open this javamaker program i'm sitting on

i bet if you went out to Austin and sat outside Portalarium for a stint, they would eventually let you go inside and start QA testing. I imagine you would be paid in donuts, or perhaps sandwiches

(*sigh*) that's the only thing that sucks about my love of ultima, is that the founder has to live in Austin. that august in 2010 nearly killed me. the next summer was worse. it did kill me. i'm typing this from the grave.
