I know what he wants now, and so does O'Sullivan... I'm curious to see how his mock-up will end up looking! :D

You deviant! What cadency system uses an even number? I see 3, 5 and 7 points in the record.
Also, I think the intent of the label is to interfere with the undifferenced arms. A reminder that it isn't the father, but the son borrowing his father's arms until the old man falls down some stairs or has a hunting accident.

That's what I thought when he came up with it, and again when I saw O'Sullivan's mock-up...

The description I gave O'Sullivan to go with the hand-drawn design:
Quarterly Azure and Gules, a Sun Or fimbriated Sable charged of Deadelus in his Agony Sable, the 1st and 4th a Fleur de Lis Or and the 2nd and 3rd a Hart springing Argent
(Hey, I'm just starting with the heraldry stuff, so I'm just trying to type something that seems to make sense! :D)

    I put in that blazon.
I think the sun and moon should go after the quarters, but since I'm just a beginner too, I'll just go with this and let Adiun or Rufus correct me.

'WOW!' does not cover it! that is GORGEOUS, and really amazing coming from a 12 year old. You tell him, there are plenty of adults who don't 'get' the rules that well, major kudos!!!

I would offer one 'suggestion' to offer him as an alternative... IF he would like to evoke your arms more, he might want to consider making the azure (blue) into vert (green).

Quarterly azure and gules a sun Or fimbriated and eclipsed sable, first and fourth fleurs dr lys Or, second and third harts springing argent. Rufus? Your turn!

Oh, and to the lad who designed this... Want a job? We would /love/ to have your eye for heraldry in the College!

Thanks all! I'll show (and partially translate) this to him in the morning! He's asleep now! (It's almost midnight here!)

Well observed! We talked about that and he chose to only use the inverted red and white of mine because it makes them stand out better as well as the sun... And he just likes the red/blue combo better! :)

If you look closely at the original drawing, you'll note it was first a white circle on the sun, until he realized it would be metal on metal, and then he decided he liked the Daedelus ecplipse better (since he'd a founder now too <G>) if he had to go for a tincture...

And now he's extremely happy with the result...

Cute! But I am happy with mine... Very recognizable, and set up with a meaning (going by traditional interpretations of tinctures and charges)! But I *am* absolutely enamored by my son's creation!

My turn, Ermine King? For blazoning?
I question whether the fimbriation is intentional. It's not needed, and could simply be an artifact of the art used.
    • If unintentional, I would simply drop the word and leave the art as is.
    • If intentional, it's very narrow for proper fimbriation
My opinion would be that it should be dropped from the blazon.

Also, the "Sun Eclipsed..." would there be a SotA CoA specific term for that charge? I was enamored of "charged of Deadelus in his Agony" as suggested by Dearg the elder.

    My suggested blazon:
Quarterly azure and gules, first and fourth a fleur de lys Or, second and third a hart springing argent, a sun Or charged of daedelus in his agony sable.

It felt awkward describing the field and then the main charge and returning to the secondary charges in the quarters.

I would also like to add a heart felt "Well Done!" for Dearg the younger.

I'm glad to see the history lesson was a great experience for your son and he has definitely learned. Kudos!
