Bears don't knock down, they only knock back. If there's a stun it's too short to notice. Corpions don't have any interrupts, and they don't hit as hard as an obsidian bear but they hit much faster and have a poison, they also have more hp and in general have better defense than a bear.

But poison would be useless against undead mobs correct? Would the DS Scorpion be more effective than the OBS bear against hardened or elite skeletons ?

Yeah poison won't land on undead, corpion still kills undead faster than the bear. Bear is cuter and a better dancer. Corpion is a better high lev pet for hunting.

These is a stun after knockback some of the time with the Obsidian Bear. I use Bludgeon and I take advantage of it when I am out hunting with my bear.

Great news and added to the OP-
    Max Level of all Pets
The current max level of all pets is obtained by training your Summoning to 126 and Combat Training to 120. @Paws discovered this while bring her Summoning to 136 and Combat Training to 131. No Difference, no level raised. Thank you @Paws for this great information!

Specialization makes the pet a little stronger at each level, I have exact HP numbers up to specialization 123 for darstarr corpion if anyone wants the info. For Bear and spider I stopped tracking them at specialization 118.

I'll just do the Darstarr Corpion's hp from 100 on, this is with Summoning at 126 and Combat Training at 120. It will show what you get from Taming Specialization.

    Taming Specialization at 100 = hp 1,267
    Taming Specialization at 101 = hp 1,274
    Taming Specialization at 102 = hp 1,280
    Taming Specialization at 103 = hp 1,286
    Taming Specialization at 104 = hp 1,297
    Taming Specialization at 105 = hp 1,303
    Taming Specialization at 106 = hp 1,309
    Taming Specialization at 107 = hp 1,314
    Taming Specialization at 108 = hp 1,326
    Taming Specialization at 109 = hp 1,331
    Taming Specialization at 110 = hp 1,337
    Taming Specialization at 111 = hp 1,343
    Taming Specialization at 112 = hp 1,348
    Taming Specialization at 113 = hp 1,360
    Taming Specialization at 114 = hp 1,365
    Taming Specialization at 115 = hp 1,371
    Taming Specialization at 116 = hp 1,382
    Taming Specialization at 117 = hp 1,384
    Taming Specialization at 118 = hp 1,390
    Taming Specialization at 119 = hp 1,399
    Taming Specialization at 120 = hp 1,411
    Taming Specialization at 121 = hp 1,416
    Taming Specialization at 122 = hp 1,422
    Taming Specialization at 123 = hp 1,428

For people that are NOT insane, here at the numbers for the Darkstarr Corpion

    Taming Specialization at 80 hp = 1,127
    Taming Specialization at 90 hp = 1,195

While we can't see attack numbers, the pets do seem to fight/kill a bit faster at each level, though it's not much per level.
The cost to take Taming Specialization from 100 to 123 is around 192 million...is it worth it? LOL hell no! If you love taming take taming specialization to 80-100 and you will have a usable pet.

Done advancing in Taming. ALL ten taming skills are level 100 (GM). You end up with 1064 hit points with the Obsidian Bear.

    That is the same as:
Hit Points of animals at Combat Training level 92 (+15 Tame Level) and Taming Specialization of 100 and Summoning of 100 (GM).
    - Obsidian Bear - 1064 hp
    - Grand Boar - 789 hp
    - Ferocious Red Spider - 908 hp
    - Darkstarr Corpion - 1135 hp

So Combat Training +15 at level 92 or level 100 is the same (as we already knew). So @Chris' magic fizzled when he said "The result, with 100's all taming skills [including Combat Training] and 80 in Taming mastery, " was not true. In my mind there is NO reason to advance Combat Training from level 92 to 100 unless you are on your way to level 106 anyway for the next taming level bonus +16.

** Unfortunately, I spent 458,500 xp, so I an going up to level 106 now * 04/02/2018 EDIT

Plus the hundreds of thousands of xp spent for bringing other taming skills up to 100 where they don't - Obedience, Refresh, and Summon Creature. They are useful at level 40.

    :( very disappointing.

Thank you Greagoir, I am still working up a Taming guide in the Offline mode - I will work numbers for each skill individually and combinations 0 ,80, 100, 110 , 120 might try a few 200 I will not know the exp needed this is just taking raw data and compiling it.

I am going to use Obsidian Bear and might throw in a low end critter and top DS Corp for the ultimate top and bottom.

This will take a little time and Will hopefully have it up on one nice clear spreadsheet.

Specialization is nice but not a good fix.. I already know that you can take a DS Corp out with nothing but the Summons at 100 and that is the only skill used and the corp will kill a Bear Patriarch withouth sny help.

But I will publish all this soon.

Also I will expand on the Pet Commands and what each means in each category i.e. what it means when you put your pet passive and command it to attack / patrol, stay? Of if pet is aggressive what will they do. I will thro a new post up when all done. If you want something specific you want looked at let me know i.e. a Chicken with 1 20 tame 40 obedience 80 Combat Train and 200 Special??

Thanks @Duke Gréagóir , @Pawz and many others for posting so much data on taming specialization in this thread. It provides a much better basis for deciding how deep to go into that specialization skill.

Once I get it, will post my taming tree. This will be useful for those who opt to buy their pets rather than taming them on their own since this is my approach. I'll try to post detailed stats too on the bear, spider , wolf and corpion pets if possible.

I have a query as to whether the Royal Founder's Summoning Whistle (Chest Mimic) behaves differently because it is a reward.

Normally if you don't resurrect a summoned creature fast enough when it dies (and its body disappears) then it is gone forever. Is that also the case with the Chest Mimic Royal Founder reward or can it be brought back?

Do not worry. You will not lose your Chest Mimic Royal Founder reward if you do not resurrect it in time. It can be bought back. :)

You can resurrect it. If it is not working report it as a bug.
