I have not seen any taming skills or animals updated for the current release. Did I miss something?

We still need pets who can stealth. Pets are still aggro magnets which is a very bad idea in zones where mobs spawn thick and fast.

Cats and Wolves would be nice. They'd nicely complement Bears who are tanks by nature.

After more than a year's absence, I'm happy to find that the taming tree has become much improved - even for those who haven't gone whole hog into this skill branch.

I picked up Frenzy, Pet Strength , Pet Speed and Combat training for an easy upgrade to my pet's capabilities. Using the active skill Frenzy automatically raises the (Pet) Strenght, Speed and Combat innates.

Normally, i just buy tamed pets from player vendors instead of going through the complex and expensive process of creating collars and taming the creatures myself. Before (as in long before), you had to get the strength spells from the Earth tree to make your pets hit harder. Upping my pet levels then using the old taming tree didn't make much sense for me - too much expenditure of skill and adventure experience for too little return.

Now I don't have to go deep into the taming specialization subtree to make my pets worth a damn and that's great!

Noticed though that bears have a terrible time navigating POT paths lined with fences, they tend to zigzag far more than is necessary. Wolves seem to have an easier time keeping up with my avatar. Do Wyverns have the same problem?

My current major skill tree investments are:

    Light armor
    Ranged
    Polearms
    Blades
    Shields

    Lunar
    Water
    Life
    Earth

    and of course Taming.

Went deep into the Life tree so I could heal/resurrect both players and pets with the same spell. Now I'm considering lessening my investment in Life since the Taming tree makes much more sense now.

Kudos again to @Duke Gréagóir for this fantastic guide! It made updating my taming tree a lot easier.

Numa at this point its to easy to gain xp, so there is no need to lessening any skill levels in anything an just dump more into the taming tree. When I left for year an half I was pretty well set in taming tree, but I agree the adds to the taming tree that were implemented while I was away are great Only thing I will say though is if you are gonna use ingnite weapon and poison weapon bring your pets taunt skill to 140. at 130 I can still pull agro off a Darkstar Destroyer by the time its down 8k hp or less depending on how many times I use poison attack skill.

I've thought hard about what you just said. Maybe it's indeed time to go whole hog into the Taming tree. Pity i can't use my tamed spiders to help me get the wild ones under control and into the collar.

Maybe my Wisp combined with root can make the whole process much less bloody. Really hate having to half beat an animal into submission. It's one of the reasons I end up buying pets from vendors in the first place.

Ok you can use another pet to tame a higher pet just make sure that you have high enough taming skill an taming special so you can get the spider as soon as you dismiss the one you were using..... so just use the pet to tank tell the one tamed is low then bing bam boom there ya go

I could this a while ago, but tested yesterday and I cannot buff my pet any more. I can only cast the pet specific spells like heal or frenzy.
Could you please confirm that you still can buff your pet?

Yesterday I selected my pet by clicking on his name, so his name and stats were next to mine in the upper left of the screen. Then I could cast the spell and it showed up in his spell bar under his name in the upper left of the screen.

I Select party members the same way when I am in a group.

Speaking of party members, there are two skills under the Shield tree which protect friendly/party members in a radius around the avatar using the skill.

Dig In - Increases avoidance for friendly targets in a radius around caster

Testudo - Slows caster but increases damage resistance for allies in radius around the player, effect increases for each ally equipped with shield

Haven't tested these myself yet. Will try to test the dig-in skill but testudo is still beyond my reach as of now.

Btw, thanks for the mention - really appreciate it :)

@Duke Gréagóir , dig-in works. The damage avoidance bonus was applied to my pet and to myself. If you move in any direction though the effect breaks for the pet. It's a shield skill meant to be used when you're fighting in place (though the pet can move around and keep the bonus as long as it's in range).

I suspect that Testudo enables you to move (at a slower pace) and any pet or party member within range that moves with you & keeps in range gets the effect.

Will test it once I get that skill.

Just learned that some if not most artifacts can be gemmed now. What artifacts oriented towards taming are gemmable ??

Very intrigued by the teleport capability of the Warp spider. Would anyone know or care to speculate how this would function in a Warp spider pet?

I figured a lot of tamers would be interested in this info ;) Elgarion finished the first draft of the R74 release notes just a while ago.
