So it appears our equinine pets have three separate attacks when tamed:

Double hoof kick: One weak hit + One strong hit (kinda like wolf's normal attack)
Single hoof Kick: One strong hit
Special attack: Strong cone AoE (Rainbow blast for Unicorns, the fire cone for Nightmares).

Notably the unicorns are missing their boulder toss attacks when attacked.

Haven't faced one yet, but I'd imagine it'll be like the Satyrs from Rift: The moment they aggro onto something (and get past the slow reaction speed) they teleport to the target they aggro'd on.

This is great, I like wolves but their attack set hasn't been updated to match other combat pet capabilities. Are the unicorns and nightmares fast? Can they navigate through obstacles well?

My Obsidian bear bumbles slowly and awkwardly through the fenced streets of a favorite POT. Hard to handle in a running fight in an area full of impediments.

If that's the case then the Warp spider is the perfect companion for an assassin's build :)

Nightmares did seem to be faster and they also have ~100 more HP than my spider but it seemed as if their defense was quite a bit lower and the majority of the damage they do is from their cone fire attack. Managed correctly and in the proper areas it can be effective but in tight quarters I can see it being a handful.

On the bright side, it's a moving light source and looks pretty cool. :)

    Thanks for those insights!

How i wish the wisp was a light source for those dungeons where night sight fails

Arachnids are still bugged (except the Ferocious Black Arachnid) and spawn with the same stats as a Ferocious Red Spider.

That's good to know, I'll avoid them for now.

Could you post the stats of the Ferocious Black Arachnid?

Can only give you the stats of my own spiders.

My Fero Black Arachnid: 2.7k+ health, deals 35-105 damage + 6-10 poison damage every second for 15 seconds.

In comparison, my other arachnids (Ferocious Red, Red, Black, Brown) and my Ferocious Red Spiders have 1.6k+ health, deal 29-70 poison damage every second for 15 seconds.

2.7k hp is enormous!! Damage isn't bad either. One of the problems I've had with spiders is that they're slow. Can yours keep up with you?

Nope, not at all. We'll probably have to wait for them to fix the pet pathing issues for the Pet Speed Training passive to actually work.

List of missing attacks from pets as of Release 74:

Bears: Missing Rend attack, and maybe knockdown (I haven't seen a bear knockdown before)?

Boars: Missing Rend attack and regular stun attack (It lasts longer but doesn't knockback unlike their normal one).

    Stags: Missing Daze attack.

Wyverns: Missing tail swipe knockdown aoe attack, missing poison scaling

Unicorns: Both missing boulder toss attacks

Bad. I better watch my bears. If this goes on we'd better bug it.

Pshhhh, that guide is so yesterday. I don't see anything about Unicorns or Nightmares! :p JK -- I'll add that to the link lists as well, thanks Numa! I'm acquiring a batch of change requests, but it'll get in there soon with my next pass. Copying URL and putting on my to-do list ;)

Ok guys, i got to ask. When is somebody going to organize an informal guild for tamers? Somewhere where we and our pets can hang out? Preferably with a dozen practice dummies that our beloved beasties can gnaw on while the rest of us talk shop :)

lol sure enough, I accidentally looked at the original post date, not last edit. Sure enough!

"Nightmares and Unicorns: Awesome. If I stopped there you would know enough. The Nightmare has a single visual model and the Unicorn has two, Dark (solid black) and Light (solid white). Both (all three?) are Tier 15 only. Both have the same HP as the Tier 15 bears. Both have a physical attack and a special attack called Hoof Smash which is simply a double physical attack like the wolves. Both also have a frontal cone AoE breath weapon-style attack, the Nightmare Spike and the Rainbow Attack. (Side note: the Dark Unicorn has the 'Rainbow Attack', the Light Unicorn has a 'Rainbox Attack', which, while clearly a typo, means that they are not using the same spell.) Both effect cones are three-dimensional, even though the spell effect is 2D. Both are absolutely devastating. The fire-based Nightmare Spike seems to work slightly better against most targets but fire immunity e.g. fire elementals renders it harmless. Nothing I have tested against (so far...) is immune to Rainbow"
