Jumping now seems to use up focus, the reason for which I really don't understand. Far worse is the fact that my avatar grunts with every jump. This is very unrealistic and breaks immersion. Grunting would be ok if health were lost because of a jump (e.g. if I jump off a building), but not if I just jump for joy from a standing stance.

The grunting is a bit much. There should be varied grunts, and sometimes instead of grunts just a sound effect of the jump (landing on the grass, etc).

AFAIK, jumping uses some focus at least since R12 , and progressively more if you jump repeatedly in a short amount of time.

Jumping has improved immensely. The first jumping was not good. The avatar bent their knees way down the longer you held the space bar and jumped up. It's a much more fluid motion now, probably more to come in much of the movements.:)

The grunting sounds like something out of a bad 90's fighting game

I do love that they are adding soundeffects.

I do not like the grunting sound effect at jumping.

The grunting sound effect is fine, there's nothing wrong with it but it should not be the same effect every jump. I think if it were randomized with other sounds or heard every 4th, 5th or 6th jump randomly then this would be a better effect.

I put the grunting sound in a loop and play it when I get my luvin' on.

LOVE that jumping uses more focus (I think it's more in combat than non-combat, btw). But I LOVE IT!

I would prefer randomized, and really not until you are low (say, less than 20%) on focus, as they seem to be using it as a replacement for endurance/stamina. So, jumping a lot when you are fresh would never elicit a grunt from someone... but when you are low on energy and needing to reach deeper to make the same effort, then yeah, grunt away lol

I would prefer something like what you've suggested.

Just a point of reference to a recent MMORPG (that I realize many here don't like, but still, it's a recent game and example to look at): In GW2, the jumping grunt is randomized and seems to trigger every 3-6 jumps. Also, there are like 4 different sounds that the game seems to randomly rotate between whenever the jump sound triggers (sometimes even repeating the same sound 2-3 times).

The variety of sounds and the random space between when they trigger feels pretty unobtrusive, but I also agree with Lord Tachys al'Fahn's suggestion that the sound should only trigger if you are getting fatigued.

Yep, they should mix it up or have different level grunts based on how high of a jump and/or if you're running too. And eventually different male/female vocalizations of all those variations too.

But as far as using up focus...I just tried a few quick jumps and long pause jumps and the focus penalty was the same in and out of combat. At least for my character in cloth armor standing in place.

Yes they should have different pitch, grunts. One for the ladies and the more effeminate men and one for the really manly men. Personally I would like a combination of effeminate grunts (or even a pitch slider) and manly grunts to suit the occasion and my outfit.

The grunts were irritating but it stopped me jumping everywhere like I usually do :S

The focus cost is also because jumping has a chance of breaking snares now, so it's not an entirely cosmetic enterprise.
