Went and installed the launcher last night, and now its stuck on "Step 3/6" of updating the game.

So that's what It's been stuck at for about 12 hours now.

    Any suggestions?

Try restarting the client if it ever stops, although you're at 0% that suggest the port may be blocked on your firewall, hit options to see the port number and then open it if need be.

restart it? the launcher is basically a custom front end for a torrent, and the torrent tracker was recently having some problems and was restarted.

I've actually restarted it 3 times.. the 12 hours was combined between the three attempts (most recently about 10 minutes before posting this thread). According to windows firewall its not blocked.. I can't see port numbers in the WF window though so Im not sure how to change which one its allowed in that.

well, that's a bit more of a problem. i can't help with windows firewall issues, but maybe @Chris could check on the torrent end again just in case?

Hi alyfox! Sorry to hear you can't get the game to download :(. Just to check, are there any other programs running in the background? Try disabling as much as possible and see if that unsticks the download.

The complete download for most high speed connections 'shouldn't' take more than an hour or so.

Nothing that's ever blocked torrents. However I shut down all my other launcher type things (blizzard, steam, uplay, etc) to see if that helps though.

Where are you located when attempting to download? If it's an office or educational network there's a possibility that bittorrent protocol is blocked altogether. If you're at home then can you check your router settings?

I assume from what you've said that you can download other torrents just fine? Can you try starting the torrent in a regular torrent client? Get the StandaloneWindows_0_602.torrent file from here (I'm assuming you're using Windows?).

... I think I figured out what the problem was. Apparently my 2TB external drive (where I was installing it) is formated to Fat32 instead of NTSF, and thus can't have files over size X on it.. and the patch file is too big. I've since re-installed it on a different drive and its updating just fine.

    *facepalm*

Someone needs to post a bug on this. Gut feeling also tells me that the patcher will probably go similarly unresponsive if downloading is done to a drive with insufficient disk space. Either way, the patcher needs to display some sort of error status when it is unable to download because of problems with the local disk. This is going to happen again to someone else, and that's what Early Access is all about.

Also, it's not really a good idea to format a drive that large as Fat32, you should at least use ExFat. Even 50GB or so is really pushing it for Fat32.

And an external drive (unless it's ESATA) might not be the best idea for SotA, it (currently) really hits the disk hard such that SSD makes a noticeable difference. On the PC I have it installed on, I added an SSD internally as S: and did a Windows symbolic link to the Portalarium folder from the Program Files directory.

Yeah, had i known when I plugged it in after I brought it home that it was pre-formated to fat32 I would have changed that.. I hadnt realized it was until recently. Why a 2 TB drive would be formated to that in the first place is beyond me, but I know for the future to always check this sort of thing
