    I just discovered this game yesterday, and after reading a bit on these forums and looking at the Shroud of the Avatar website went ahead and pledged at the $45 level, so I can see some of the game first-hand, before deciding what is next.

    I'm waiting for the client to download and update (looks like it will be awhile), so I thought I would say hello and ask if anyone would be so kind as to point me toward some guides (some things I can read so as to be prepared re: what to do first, etc., how do I move, and all that) that I can look at while waiting for the download/patching to complete.

    Hi Celthon,

    When you first start the game, there will be a book in your inventory called Player Guide or somesuch. I recommend that you read as much of it as you can. It contains nearly everything you will need to know.

    Ok, thank you very much for all the replies and information.

    Side note: in upper section of the Forum listing is "New Player Welcome", but it is tagged as "Private" and when I open it it's empty and says I do not have sufficient forum privileges...that was where I originally tried to put this "Hello..." thread. Did I not activate my forum account properly or something?

    Update: when I tried to use the link in the post just before this one (from niteowl57) I got a message indicating that if I'd just Pledged or upgraded a Pledge it may take up to 24 hrs. for Permissions to propagate, or something to that effect...so thought I'd pass that along as FYI.
