I originally wanted to get a degree in medieval history, but realized the job opportunitys after getting the degree were very limited without having additional degrees...so ended up not getting it. Might go back and get it one day, even if it's just for fun.

my degree is in history... i focused mostly on cold war era in my own studies, but at the college and then in my work for my former advisor's newest book has all been ancient and medieval work. still working on my own book... have it up to 200 pages of analysis along with hundreds of pages of transcriptions and translations I did into English from Czech. Anything involving the Romans is still some of the most fascinating history for me along with my Cold War era stuff...

Sorry, my Masters is in Business Administration, but I have read about a dozen or so massive tomes on medieval history. I'm rather fond of the subject :D

English degree here. I took more than a few linguistics and medieval / renaissance studies courses and have read a great deal of medieval literatures (in original languages). I know more about the ways medieval Europeans communicated than I do about the histories of medieval Europe. On the former, I know quite a lot. :)

History, communication, and computer networking degrees. I'm not a PHD in anything, but I spread out my education and spent the same amount of time in school as one.

From your perspective, it was in the past, but from the perspective of a star system 50 light years away it has not even happened yet, and is therefore still yet to happen.

That's not quite right unless Resurrected is stuck hurdling through space at a relative speed greater than c to the observer in question. They won't be able to observe the event in the ways that we would until the observable energies reach them (in 50 years, assuming they even make it this far without being deflected, absorbed, trapped by gravity, or transformed). But alas, when the observer does finally witness the event, it will still be at least fifty years past, even if to that observer the event appears to be happening in the moment.

This is one of the realities that blows people minds when you bring it up in a discussion about intelligent extraterrestrial life: that even if aliens in a far away galaxy did observe radio waves emitted from Earth, they likely would not do so until well after humans are extinct. And unless there is some powerful shortcut across the cosmos that we have yet to encounter, travel from there to here would take far longer. By the time would-be visitors could even get here, the planet should be long dead. It would take more than 200,000 years to travel across just the Milky Way at the speed of light, but remember, for every moment that passes for an observer traveling at the speed of light, an infinite number of moments would pass for any outside observer, meaning, plainly, you can't travel at (or even close to) the speed of light by conventional means (through spacetime).

If a traveler is approaching earth at the speed of light and it would take 50 years, and, meanwhile, a event was beamed into space in the opposite direction toward them at the speed of light, would the approach visitors see the message in 50 years, or 25 years?

And if they were on the earth and left at the speed of light, at the same time that the earth projected that event away in the same direction as them at the speed of light, would they see nothing but that same event frozen in time, the whole journey back?
