this weekend the game felt alive , I don’t know if everyone is rolling alts but I saw a bunch of new faces and new names. I also saw some new questions in general chat.

It felt good seeing this, this is a good game it is just missing players. Keep the advertising rolling.

Maybe I'm being too gloomy, but it's almost sort of a "they're already dead and they don't realize it yet" moment.

Portalarium seems to have a humility issue. They seem to want to present a solidified appearance of confidence that they know what they're doing... but that's not a reputation they've earned. The email blast should have been shown to the community for feedback. We might have caught the glaring typo, or given our thoughts on what would have been provocative. But they lack humility.

They seem to have potentially good ideas, but can't seem to pull them off. They supposedly sent this to 100k-200k people. Imagine renting out a venue for a concert for 100k people, and 15 show up. That wasn't a success. And, it'll likely be ignored if they try it again.

They really, really need to bring in outside help... a fresh perspective.

That was the overall size of their list, Chris mentioned before sending out the update that they have multiple ways of breaking that number to target specific subsets and that's how they were doing it rather than all in one go.

One thing I know is most of our guild started playing a bit more since the rumors of an episode 2 wipe has finally been denied, we (around 15 players) had all lost interest in working on our characters because of that, and the past few updates were so small, they felt empty, so we had nothing to pull us back in. Now, with the reworked DRW, Crafting mastery just around the corner, and no more wipe rumors, we are slowly jumping back in, and I guess we might not be the only ones.

And this is speculation and not necessarily the truth. An opinion.

    Yupp. No doubts about that.
The average turn out on commercial mailings (at least in this part of the world) is 2-3%.
Couple of years ago I read it is even less for this kind of "come back" stuff. But I don't know the exact statistical average.

It's also my opinion that it's still possible for them to turn this around. But like most of my opinions - probably wrong.

I see more new people in the game than veterans. I reckon they're new by low level stats.

This isn't a new observation. It's been this way since free to play - not consistently, mind you, but I generally see a lot of new people in my area (between Aerie and Resolute).

Granted, most veteran players are hidden away from the world, but I definitely see a lot of new players every day.

Yeah I'm seeing 7-8 players on the Overworld on the regular now when I pop out.

And 2 different peeps bought stuff off my vendor in Port Graff for the first time in forever!

Saw a 3-way row lot expiry race too recently! No blinking!

Chris showed a graph of what I recall was new character creation (or maybe it was concurrency, I don't remember) and the last of the daily spikes was 2x, from right after the first mailing.

This time I got one of the second mailings, hmm... they mentioned "an in-game map system". Oh dear. If that map system hadn't been nailed there, it would have fallen off! Some of its scenes still don't have maps yet!

I've had to get cracking with restocking vendors this week, but now I'm impressed.
