Just appeared next a bandit and he looked at me and walked on rather than immediately sucking me into another encoutner. He's not broken, I went back and he came at me.

If we've got a little grace moment now, that's great!

When you first appear in a scene (including the world map) you have a few seconds of protection (the blue shimmering). This protection also make encounters ignore you.

It's actually been this way for a long time.

Well I've got a bug report in for 4 in a row last release, so it can't be that long.

I think this is related to load times.

When I have a bad connection and the scene takes forever to load then I never experience the grace time. This is simply because the scene has loaded and started the grace timer way before it shows me the scene gfx. You can usually see this when you get a pop-up from an object while the screen is still black.

So with reduced load times you get to experience more of the grace period.

I had several three in a row encounters in R43.

But once I figured it out I simply hold down a move key while the scene is loading. Where even though I don't see it my a atar moves away from the encounter.

@Spoon ok wow, that's a major triple threat then!

If you have a bad connection you get nailed a second time, causing your bad connection to have to do 2 more loads, only to get nailed again and do 2 more loads, on and on.

So basically the grace period works great for good connections and totally falls flat with bad ones. Needs a rethink @Lexie .

It didn't used to. The blue thing only protected you from damage but didn't protect you from aggro. Inside a scene, you could have wolves rush you and start biting at you with no damage, even before you could move. I made a feedback about it last month, so maybe they fixed it, in which case I'm happy.
