There has been some added since I last logged in, but since I found about SoTA in 2014..? its still not out. You even have to make a purchase to use the General forums.
I am playing a couple other games that are near completion and they were began after SoTA. I still have yet to see any of the physical items from the Kickstarter come to me and I put my address in long LONG ago.

I hope things work out with the game, I want it to be the fun game originally promised, I'm just really nervous right now.

The $5 to post in the forum was introduced as the devs were spending too many resources on administrating spam posts, the $5 is also deducted when you buy the game.
Not all game development is equal.
Physical rewards will be sent out upon the games commercial release the date of which will be announced by the end of this year, so stick around.

The devs enjoy a very free and flat management structure.
The game they are making resembles a heavily taxed bread line.
    Mail the participation trophy.

Additionally, remember that a ton of stuff can be crafted in game. If you don't wish to contribute to game development using the add-on store, you can still earn gold in game through your adventuring and support our crafters for many of the items you may wish to have.

    Hi Annah!

We are working hard to get the game completed and ready for launch. Since it is still in Early Access, we of course need to keep funding development, or it will not be possible to complete.

The general forum access goes toward your game purchase. As was said here, it's to help prevent spammers from getting into the forums. It's not a $5 purchase for forum access, unless of course that's all you want to do...

Let us know if you have any other questions!

I think as soon as they make profit, we can expect to see our physical goods delivered. Not sure if they are part of the current budgeting. They should be but I wouldn't be surprised if not.

If they wanted a little more cash, they could set up a webcam so that we can watch RG signing all of those cloth maps and silently wondering if he can gank whoever wrote that line in the Kickstarter. :p

@Berek was the Kickstarter campaign just to get the development started?

Richard has said in the past that when interest in the project was being generated, they decided on Kickstarter to kick the tires and see if there was any interest. It turned out there was, so they went ahead with the project. If there was any interest during the Kickstarter campaign, we probably wouldn't be doing any of this.

So I guess you could say that as a result Kickstarter was used to get development started. How far that couple of million dollars is anybodies guess, as they aren't likely to reveal their exact costs. As more and more money has rolled in and demands from the community have been expressed and incorporated into SotA, the scope of the project has grown. This was only possible because of the other 10 million raised since Kickstarter closed. Without that money, the development wouldn't have been nearly as extensive and the game nowhere near what it is today.

They mentioned the KS was also to prove to investors that the interested for such a new Ultima game was there.

If that is within the KS rules I have no idea.

Physical goods are already beginning production, but this process takes many months to complete, so please be patient as we work to get them organized and eventually delivered.

Maybe this could be worked into the next weekly update? There are a great number of KS backers who will be happy to hear this.

I'm glad to see the responses about all my worries.
I also logged into the game today, placed my house again and had fun running around the land.
I noticed the movement in the shadows and I loved it. I know it's a small thing, but it's not something that always has effort put in.

The games that I'm playing that are close to completion are Subnautica which is a beautiful and terrifying game. And Oxygen Not Included which is simpler graphics but the survival fun similar to Minecraft.
