I am a complete neophyte to this and looking for simpleton directions if possible

Is there an existing playlist I can use? somthing like /play xxxxx?

Or if I import music, what folder do I need to drop them into?

    Thanks alot in advance!

The R22 instructions might get you started:

    Music and Instruments

Musically-inclined Avatars can play instruments and songs for the enjoyment of friends, tavern patrons, or random passers-by. At present, your character can only play music while having a hand-held instrument equipped (such a as a lute) or by interacting with an instrument placed in the world (such as the piano in the Owl’s Head tavern).

Once equipped with a musical instrument, use the /play command to ready it then use number keys 1-8 to plays notes. Non-equipped instruments like pianos do not need to be readied with /play.

You can also play musical files by placing them in the SotA Songs folder. The filepath in your SotA install is: Shroud of the Avatar_Data\Data\Songs

All music files must be in the .mml or .abc file format. By default, the game begins with a copy of RuleBritannia.abc already in this folder.

    /play - Ready equipped instrument

    #1-8- Plays notes. #1 is 1 Middle C pitch

/playlist- prints a list of all the songs in your songs folder

/play <songname>- plays the song, by file name, from your songs folder

/play <songname> loop- loops the song after finishing it

/play <songname> sync- prepares a song to play while in a party

/playstart- starts all party members playing their synced song

May I ask another question? I've figured out how to add songs if they are downloadable as is. I have not been able to figure out what to do with them if I find them in a text format. Help?

For example, what do I do with this? I believe it is in MML format?

Paste the text into a text file and save it as a .abc or .mml file. (IE: if you're using notepad, go to save as, select save as type "all files" and save the file as omgwhateversong.abc/mml - file type depending on what type of music notation it is - in your case mml)

Also if some of you are wondering why some .abc songs don't work it seems to be the ones that are missing the tempo attribute in the file text. You can usually fix this by adding Q:120 to it (that seems to be the typical tempo).

Also playable musical instruments. Awesome feature.

The addition of music is one of the best features added. Thank you developers for taking the time for such an amazing feature.

My understanding is that a member of the community here was responsible for a large part of it so they deserve a lot of credit too.

Also if you import the file into Maestro, it will put in any missing items that will make the music file play. I found this out by accident while converting 265 Ultima 3-UW2 + UO MID files today.

Indeed, @Eniko wrote and donated the code libraries that interpret the music. She talks about it here.

It wasn't until I posted my question that I realized the solution was probably that simple.

Would appreciate some of the U7 ones such as Dead Bodies. Will you be making them available somewhere?

We need a way to share the music in game, something akin to teaching each other so we can play as a band with people we don't actually know and can e-mail the files to.

    Am I just missing something?

Eventually there will be an in-game interface for it but I doubt song sharing would be allowed because it'd be a huge security risk since that would be data going from someone else's drive directly to yours. It is just as easy, and much safer, to link in chat where you got the file.

Except that I actually translated most of the files I am using today. Not much more of a security risk than logging chat would be, technically. But yes some thought would have to go into it.

    Thanks for the response.

One would think that if our client can play music across the server it could also be used to dump the abc file when we go into 'learn' mode.

I think there are other concerns such as this turning into a p2p network for midi based music. :p

    Hi Ashlynn,

I've got a cut down version of this that I've used in LotrO before:
    https://copy.com/8YidfxPZSi2dh04S

This was edited to remove some of the more superfluous bits of the piece and allow for better ABC playback in LotrO. I have not yet had time to test the system in SotA though, so it may be better or worse than the full MIDI dump which is linked in elsewhere.
