The Launcher is crashing on my machine.

I went to update SOTA tonight, after running around a bit. The launcher crashes whenever it goes to update the system - not when downloading the torrent, but when it tries to apply it.

I did a clean install. Same thing.

I have no idea what is going on. This is new Win10 machine - it installed fine on Saturday for Patch 509.

Note: I apparently have some other issues on this PC. Dell is going to replace the video card and when the do I will reset it factory settings. Hopefully that will take care of the issue.

This is what has happened to me with Patch 510. The first (slow) attempt at downloading would not unzip, after a retry it unzipped but would not apply. A download from 0-->510 did work and I played a few hours.

Now it has just happened again on Patch 511. It downloaded speedily, it unzipped, but the patch would not apply.

Pressing "retry" made the launcher start trying to download from zero again, but I turned it off immediately. That will have to be tried again while I am asleep tonight.

I did not think to try unzipping it.

And that worked to update to 510. I can run the game directly, but the launcher crashes whenever I run it.

I too have been having problems with launcher/update on 64-bit Windows-10 PC.
Freezing @ 98% unzipping StandaloneWindowsPatcher step 4/6. (let it sit a few hours at this screen before forcefully closing application)

Tried some things including deleting the update file, manually unzipping, and starting the launcher found in the unzipped standalone_0_108 folder.

Freezing @ Extracting Shroud Downloading Latest Version Information. (again a few hours before closing)

Fired up Steam client and the update went flawlessly and was able to login and play SotA, all in less than 30 minutes.

Just fired up the launcher using the PC shortcut and it is/has been sitting on Updating Patch Client step 1/6.
Fired up launcher found in the 0-108 folders and it is downloading 109 - 110....... at >400KBs. Great... another 4 hours for something Steam can do in less than 30. You should think about getting a server that is less than 15 years old.

Starting Steam..... In less than 17 minutes download/install WIN.64.511.Date.11.21.16 and running around IN the game. PC launcher @ 37% DOWNLOADING.

Well that a different subject I will bring up in a different thread.

Leaving now. Will be back later (if I don't fall asleep) to see if this PC update crashes.

    Update:
Finished DL some 30 minutes after Steam had me in game.
Some window open for a few seconds... unzipping I think.
Now FROZEN @ UPDATING THE GAME... Unzipping 100% complete... Extracting Shroud of the Avatar_Data/shared. 1hr 55 minutes.

    OMG!
Downloaded in a matter of minutes 504 - 507 but it hung on extracting. Only gave it a few minutes though since it didn't seem right.

Launched again from the quick start icon and it started downloading 0 - 511.
Somebody(s) over there turn off the porn stream(s) and go home? >7.5MB/s DL.
Some 20 minutes later it started unzipping and another 12 minutes I was IN THE GAME!

Don't ask my why. I haven't a clue, (other than data stream speed) but the updater worked this time. No changes to network settings, no changes to computer settings, no abnormal CPU/Disk IO/Network Usage, and no reboot/resets at any time for the past 14 hours.

    UPDATE:
/bug only works when you are able to successfully launch the game. ;) and now that I can:

Gentlemen, thank you for the reports!

Please be sure to include your system specs by typing /bug and pasting the results here. Also specific error messages and/or screenshots can be helpful. Issues like this can be related to antivirus software, so that may also be something to note in the reports.

Please limit bug reports to one issue per thread, slow download speed is another topic entirely, and is a know issue that was discussed in the last hangout.

Bug noted about "Launcher hangs or crashes in some cases unzipping or applying the patch"

I'd recommend a complete reinstall of SotA.

I will see if it still happens after I get the video card replaced and windows reinstalled. I don't think it is antivirus - the only one I have running at the moment is Windows Defender.
