Instrument buffs now useless

    • Fixed an issue where buffs from instruments were active while the player was not actively playing the instrument.


    Why?! How was this an issue? They honestly seemed designed that way... now they are completely useless. If this was a bug why was it not on the known issues list for the past 2 years? Why not word it like it really is, a change, instead of fixing an "issue" that was clearly not an issue until it was randomly decided to be with no indication.

    This makes instruments much less useful. Again, NOT FUN.

    Why are so many NOT FUN things added to a video game?

    Video game should = fun.

    I have not tested it but that sounds bad. Fleet Flute only works on the player and not the group. If this "fix" is right then that instrument would become worthless. It gives movement speed and attack speed but yet you move super slow and can't attack while playing....

    I just confirmed with my fleet flute that this is true....

    This is utter insanity.... they must be joking right?

    Is this April fools?

    Why would they ever remotely consider doing this????

    I don't think what he's talking about is fixing the core issue here, otherwise why would they put it in the patch notes.

    I really agree one of the best things that was ever done for this game was to get us musical instruments that could buff us and even better buff our group. It added another dimension to play music in this game. Not only was it fun entertainment but it was now useful. That was a very great day for this game. Now if our NPCs in towns would react to a song If we play it around them I think that would be so awesome too.

    As to the wording on the patch notes: It seems this is yet again one of those things where different people on the dev team have different ideas on how stuff is meant to work.

    If you (@Chris) are going to require a dedicated party member to play these buffs, you should seriously consider making a full blown bard skill tree. I guess, stick it under Strategy or Combat, but Combat is crowded already. It should be one that they can use in conjunction with the Life tree, or other schools of magic. Having to play for 5 seconds to get a 30s buff seems extreme to me. But then again, I guess that theoretically means they could keep up 6 buffs indefinitely if they have the timing down perfect. I think a lot of people would really enjoy a bard skill tree.

    If you don't want to make a bard skill tree, then you could have just limited the number of buffs a player could apply with the use of an instrument to like 1 or 2. Additionally you could add a cooldown in between applications of the same buff. For example, the buff lasts for 30s, but you can only apply the buff every 60s...

    I'm a bit salty about it since I paid 16k gold for a flute of defiance which was very helpful. Now it's trash. I had no idea this was considered broken; I wonder if the people selling these items did.

    I want it to take a few seconds to activate, last 30s after playing

    But i want it to INCREASE in EFFectivness every 10 seconds its played!!!

    So solo people can use it but dedicated bards in a group MAKE IT STRONGER @Chris look at this!!! Do this ^^^^^^

    Honestly, I despair. This has been the worst patch I've experienced for my play-style.

    I appreciate it's fine for others, but for me it's not.

    Instruments *must* provide buffs in solo play that are viable. I mean, I can get a devotional buff that lasts ten hours - I don't have to stand in the thing for the whole time!

    Play a tune for a few seconds, go into battle, have a short buff. Why is this so unreasonable???

    It is important to also consider that making it so that you need a dedicated member to act as a bard is just one step closer to pigeon holing people into playing "classes".

    Another solution would be making it so that you have to listen to a musical instrument for like 5 minutes, but in return receive a 1-2 hour buff. Like entertainers in SWG - a fantastic system. This could drive players to taverns where live musicians are playing. Could bring more life to multiplayer and player-owned towns.

    @Almar - I just deleted an indignant post I made in similar vein. It appears that this is not intended, the artefact instruments are borked, and will be attended to. I am holding fire and awaiting the next patch or two.

    And make craftable artifact instrument that enchanters can enchant

    Like a crimson pine lute that can be enchanted to increase spell crit etc

    When played, of course
