Is there news about the release here on the forums

Agree and disagree.

Agree: there should be a single unified place to put important info.

Disagree: not all of us use forums, not all of us use twitter, not all of us use facebook, not all of us discord, not all of us use etc., etc., etc.

 

Understood and agreed. Hence the reason I said that they should keep us informed on the "official website", not necessarily on the forums. The same place we go to check if the server is up "Updates" area should give clear updates.

 

You mean on the splash screen at startup? Otherwise the only real place that is totally dedicated to SOTA is right here. Third party apps running a SOTA thread....bleh.

 

Here in Holland we are using signal mirrors to communicate the SOTA downtime status from windmill to windmill!

This has been a major pain in the a**. the old windmills are ok, climb one of the blades, hop to the top and start signalling to the next windmill! but the new windmills are so high that it takes a long climb to get to the top!

But at least we are up to date with the SOTA downtime news, but only when the sun is shining, which is not much lately

It would be great if we had official communication as an in-game window.
Imagine, a simple exclamation mark button on the screen, with development news, community and dev events, schedules, in-game events like the seasonal stuff and whatnot.

This would help adding life to the game, especially for newcomers who can take weeks to meet another player in SotA.

And maybe a much needed "weekly featured content" showing a special feature in a scene of choice, such as (proper) treasure hunt, PvP battles, rare boss fight, special fish, better rewards, etc.

So true. If I was new and discovered SOTA, and it didnt work, and I didnt see any reasoning for it on the top of the main SOTA site, I not only would not try to dig through forums, I wouldn't look back. No one should have to use windmill science to find info. Any important news, should be right next to server status. We must realize that not everyone uses all these media outlets, and some do not even use the forums.

 

Yes, we literally got a lot of players confused about the server status here in the forums, and they were met with the "using Discord is easy" response.

And it took me a couple of years to find out that the server status is in the "All Updates" link on the website

 

I'd just add - I agree that different people look to different spots. However, some avenues are objectively better than others. For example, one that requires both a user account, and providing a working phone number and email (i.e. Discord), is worse than one that's just viewable anonymously.

I tried to create a discord account a couple months back, tried to use a throwaway Google Voice number. They didn't like that and blocked my email.

Good lord people. Just ask for a volunteer that's always on. Give them the title of Unnofficial Spokesperson, have them type up the important news things, and we toss that person a few COTO for their efforts, maybe an ingame portrait?

Sorry, forgot to include the not factual in the least, conspiracy, gossip, and conjecture section. I'm sure you can help me out.

 

To be fair in the interest of accuracy which is moot at this point was that FBohler was right. Unfortunately you had referenced an update from Rav that had updates posted after the one you shared.

However considering when you replied things had just escalated at that time as the QA was being turned on. Regardless now we know things are moving forward at a pace now that we've been able to do our parts for testing.

 

Devs latest information is on Discord.
